Kuovonne
It sounds like it is common for young accelerated students to understand deeper material but not be able to produce the "output" typically required for that level of material. For example, they might be able to understand the textbook, and answer questions orally, but not write out the answers to the assignment. Does anyone else have a student who is accelerated in the completely opposite way? For example, my DD has no problem writing out lengthy answers. However she has a horrible time figuring out the answers to begin with. I struggle most with DD's content subjects. She has no problems reading the textbook and actually enjoys it. She can quote passages of the text verbatim. Once she finds an answer for her worksheets, she has no problems writing the answer, even if it is lengthy. Yet if the answer doesn't immediately pop into her head, it's like she has no idea how to figure out or look up the answer. My appologies if this fluke isn't really a valid way of being accelerated. I'm just hoping that somewhere out there is another mom/kid with the same problem. Edited January 27, 2011 by Kuovonne
2smartones
My kids aren't like that, but yes, it's very valid! There are a lot of kids who are accelerated in ways other than academics. It doesn't make them any less accelerated, though.
