sditz1
I posted about what we have done so far http://myblogbysusan.blogspot.com/ and I am also going to have her create a big map of our town. I would love to hear what others are doing or have done for Community. Thanks Susan
Closeacademy
We have community units in both 2nd and 3rd grade with Oak Meadow. This what I did: 2nd grade: source to product week with a farm visit animal helpers/humans who serve our community caring for humans and animals commuication of animals and humans transportation We are about 1/2 through that unit and really enjoying it. I pick one fiction book to read and find an easy reader for her to read. We talk about the topics and maybe do a field trip. 3rd grade plans: transportation & communication community services occupations ethnic groups--local ethnic festival city history famous locals--we have a few that we will learn about local highlights--visitor's center trip local resources--farming (this will transition us into our farming unit) Each week, we will talk about and/or experience these aspects of the community. For K-4, you could do the alphabet field trip idea and visit a different local place for each letter of the alphabet at the rate of one a week and then do corresponding activities at home. Just an idea. Hope this helps. :001_smile:
