CindyJ
I have a question about Saxon Algebra 2. I read on another board that maybe 2/3 of the content is geometry, and that it doesn't have all of the algebra 2 content of a standard text, so that the algebra 2 has to be finished in the Advanced Math text. Does anyone know if this is true? My ds is using it in his math class (his school uses Saxon, at least for some of their high school math), and he said recently that they had just gotten to some things that were covered in the SAT. That may just have been the pace of the class or the way things are arranged in the book, but I have been wondering about the book ever since I read that comment. MamaT
My understanding is that Saxon Algebra 2 covers all the algebra covered on the SAT. The problem would be if your child had not had the next text, Advanced Mathematics, which covers some of the geometry needed for the SAT. Advanced Mathematics covers analytical geometry and trig. Teachin'Mine
I'm surprised someone thought 2/3 of it is geometry. Very little of the book is geometry until the final few chapters where they do a rudimentary intro to geometry proofs. Were they referring to graphing equations? Maybe that looked like geometry to them? Because it has some trigonometry, there are diagrams of angles as well. I know some don't like Saxon for different reasons, but overall we're really pleased with their texts. :) Edited May 5, 2010 by Teachin'Mine
