Jayne J
If you felt Horizons was lacking in word problems, did you supplement? What did you use? Overall, I am quite happy with Horizons, but I am wondering if there is something out there to fill this specific hole--not an entire second program, but a targeted word problem type series? What about a logic type program--do you think that would help with the kind of thinking required?
Julie
I would look at the Singapore Challenging Word problems. They take a very different approach to braking down word problems that I think will server my kiddos well later in math. HTH.
kangato3
I'm supplementing Horizons with Challenge Math, and for my youngest, Primary Challenge Math. I've been very pleased with the type of word problems. I have found it easy to incorporate a few each day.
WiseOwlKnits
I haven't used this specific book, but Kumon has a Word Problem book series that I'd use if I was worried about it. I've used their Time and Money books at DD's request (she wanted something to do while her brother was at gymnastics) and been very happy with them.
