Melinda in VT
I was raised in a denomination that didn't do Advent. For the past 8 years, I've been gradually increasing my observance of Advent and I'd like to find some Advent music. The only Advent hymn I was familiar with growing up is "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" (love it!) and the exposure to other Advent hymns during church isn't enough to really know them, iykwim. Now that I have a piano, I plan to buy a copy of the hymnal we use in church, but I'd also like to buy some CDs of Advent music. Any recommendations? I tend to prefer older hymns to newer music. I like my church services with pipe organs and not guitars. ;)
mrsrevmeg
Wow, I had never really thought about the concept of "Advent" music. We just always sing Christmas songs during the whole time. Of course, I was not raised in/do not currently attend a church that observes Advent. We have started doing things here at home though. I did a quick internet search and found this , this , this , and this HTH
Caitilin
I hear you on the organs vs. guitars. :) I tend to play Christmas music all through Advent, but only because it's almost impossible to find a whole cd of Advent hymns. I have some Anonymous 4 CDs, King's College Cambridge (several), and just to avoid being boxed in, Joan Baez's Noel--mostly a cappella, fwiw. :) I hope you find what you're looking for!
