We use these Small Stories of Great Artists by Anholt's Artists Books for Children Series , I don't know how they compare to the book you mentioned though. Once Posted July 20, 2009 Share Posted July 20, 2009 Sonlight sells a series called "Come Look With Me". The story about the artist is much shorter and less involved but there is a picture and a few questions to ask so that the child can intereact with the art. I think they have it in the K or first level. We have enjoyed these. If you are looking for a hands on art cirr that teaches the techniques used by an artist "Masterpiece of the Month" by Teacher Created Resources is a fun hands on one. Here happens to be a FREE download of the Meet the Masters program manual... (which can be used as a whole curriculum, in itself) http://www.getinvolvedineducation.com/pdfs/For-Program-Managers/Meet-the-Masters-Program-Manual.pdf or you can purchase it www.meetthemasters.com ($30/per track) Both programs include short bios of the artists, picture study w/ discussion, additional activities (including art)! We are planning to use the FREE program manual and using Masterpiece of the Month (http://www.amazon.com/Masterpiece-Month-JENNIFER-THOMAS/dp/1557340188) for added fun, just as a previous poster listed. Masterpiece of the Month, for us, is not enough by itself for picture/artist study! Hope this helps!
