  1. Some of my faves:

I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe

If you can't operate your turn signals what makes you think you can operate the rest of the car?

You can no more win a war than you can win an earthquake

War is terrorism with a bigger budget

Humans aren't the only species on Earth we just act like it

At least the war on the environment is going well

If going to church makes you a christian, does going to the garage make you a car?

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds

Change is inevitable Growth is optional

Our national health plan: don't get sick

We don't have a democracy, we have an auction

The problems we face will not be solved by the minds that created them

You measure democracy by the freedom it gives its dissidents, not the freedom it gives its assimilated conformists

No. You can't have my rights. I'm still using them.

Democrats think the glass is half full, Republicans think the glass is THEIRS

My fave one with a message, the one I would have if I put stickers on my car: If you are not outraged then you are not paying attention

The one that cracked me and STILL cracks me up? GO LEMMINGS GO!

  2. Desmond and Penny being together at the end of it all is one of the things my gut feels pretty sure about. :001_smile: It may not end well for anyone else but I think those two are going to make it.

And isn't Alvar Hanso and the Hanso Foundation the money behind Dharma? A few episodes ago, Widmore was shown buying the Black Rock ledger from Torvard Hanso, who is some kind of relative. It may be that eventually Hanso will show up as being involved in the Ben v. Widmore thing.

The more I think about it, the more sure I am sure that it WAS Ben's group attacking Alex, Danielle and Karl.

For one thing, we've seen that Ben is still in communications with the Others. They may be at this temple, but Ben sent Taylor to try to get Juliet to kill Charlotte and Daniel and that implies some type of communication.

Secondly, during the attack, all you saw of the attackers was plants swaying, they were invisible. And if that isn't Others warfare tactics I don't know what is!

  3. Are we to assume that Michael is now the 6th or are they saying Aaron is? In the previews for the April shows they said, "Now that we know the Oceanic 6".

While the preview said that, there was definitely a picture of Aaron shown. I would assume Aaron is one of the 6. Jack, Kate, Sayid, Sun, Hurley and Aaron.

I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of how Nadia shows up in so many flashbacks. Not that it is her flashback, but we see some of her past in someone else's flashback.

I know what you mean, she may yet show up in some flashbacks but I think it would behoove the writers to give her a flashback of her own.

I thought that it was interesting that Sayid "condemned" Michael for working for Ben and we already know that Sayid will be working for Ben in the future.

That was rather chilling, and a bit of poetic irony.

referring either to Annie, or to Ben's mom

Yep Ben's mom is a possibility too, but I lean towards Annie, its more mysterious. :)

Or was Libby simply a figment of Michael's OMG-I'm-about-to-die brain?

I'm thinking Libby was a figment of Michael's guilt, because she also showed up off island when he was in the hospital. Also usually there's a lot more spookiness and atmosphere when a havid appears. Just a guess though.

And I would really love to see Locke grow his balls back. He's been very pitiful this season.

He goes through seasons like this quite regularly! I remember how pathetic season 2 Locke was. Maybe the writers just kind of need to leave him in limbo right now while other things are being forwarded.

I think that Ben arranged for Danielle and Karl to be shot.

    I'm leaning towards Ben myself.

  4. I guess Danielle's story could be told via someone else's flashback...maybe. I don't know how fans' reactions will be to this though, I bet some would feel cheated. I'm not at all convinced she's dead, will have to wait and see. When Karl got shot, I was like...oh thats who's going to die, a veritable redshirt. Then I almost fell over when Danielle got shot. If its the freighter people shooting at them, then Alex may have some bargaining power. But she doesn't if they are being shot at by Ben's people acting on instructions from him. They were ok with imprisoning Karl so perhaps they would be ok with shooting him too, and Danielle is nothing to them. And they've proven time and again that Ben can either force, manipulate or persuade his people to do what he wants them to do.

Sayid..ahhh Sayid. I hope its not the writing, I really do. They have done an impressive job of developing all these characters and I hope the writers are not getting lazy. Dh and I were annoyed with Kate too, even as she knelt and turned her back we were like....no way. It is hard to believe Kate's character would be that naive when she JUST caught them lying and being secretive and their intentions are highly questionable.

Annie, we haven't seen hide nor hair nor mention of her since the one episode...unless Goodwin's wife (forgot her name, is it Taylor?) was referring to her when she muttered something about Juliet "looking just like her". Bet that was a reference to Annie. I wonder if she's someone we've met already.

And that's true about Desmond's vision including Claire. Well, that means either his vision was wrong (doubt that), he lied to Charlie (possible) or Claire does get on the helicopter but something happens afterward (also possible). Maybe she gets off for some reason intending to get right back on but it takes off without her? Or perhaps she is forced off?

And YES the helicopter is doing something!! Half the time its gone from the freighter, what is it doing??? Frank is up to something. I hope he is anyway, I like the idea of him being a loose cannon.

And Miles suddenly became more interesting to me when he first met Michael and said almost playfully "Your name's not Kevin." How does he know this stuff????? I get the ghostbusting ability, but Michael's not dead...so how did he know????

And wth is up with all the lists??? There was ANOTHER list wanted by Ben (Jacob too?), this time of all the freighties.

I also loved in this episode that the island was again referred to as its own identity, that it wouldn't "let" Michael die. Or maybe it was just Tom speaking metaphorically. Actually, the island is probably my favorite character in the show!! I want it to have some sort of sentience. Maybe Jacob, the havids, the smoke monster are all physical manifestations of it??? Who knows, its crazy stuff.

  5. Do you think they'd do a flashback for Danielle if she's dead? Here it is season four and we've yet to see this supposed flashback episode of hers. She might not be dead. And what was up with her "preppy" new look?

I'm not sure if Sayid's exposing Michael is a good or bad idea. My initial reaction was to think it was a bad move on his part. But, it just isn't like him to fly off the handle and do things irrationally so I'm hoping he has good reasons (other than angry revenge) for doing it. I'm hoping it was a strategic move as well. Which it might be because any "friend" of Ben's is an enemy.

I for one don't want to know who is the good guy, who is the bad guy. I don't think its that black and white for one thing. Ben has done bad things, there isn't really any way to good them up. They have both abused power and people, though Ben is an extremely interesting character. But I see the point, it does seem to be moving toward a Ben vs Widmore dynamic, which in case I still don't want to know who to root for because I love the ambiguity!

And I had another thought after seeing the previews for the next episode (I say previews but I really mean "flashes before my eyes" they go so fast). I'm wondering if Claire DOESN'T give up Aaron. I wonder if the rescue happens so fast, and Claire is not there but Aaron is and somehow he makes it off the island and she doesn't not because she chose to but because something crazy happens and they are seperated. She may not have to die.

And I really think the actual leaving of the island by the few that leave the island will be a CRAZY event.

April 24 is sooo far away. And Eli Stone really sucks.

  6. This may be considered SPOILER by some, so I am warning. I don't think it is, but some people have differing ideas than mine about that. It really gives nothing away, and anyone can find this anywhere with a quick google, so its common knowledge for fans.

I consider it a CLUE NOT A SPOILER.

This is the newspaper clipping, don't worry as per usual Lost m.o., it gives virtually nothing away:

"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 a.m. in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue.

Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft. Concerned for the tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room.

According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Lantham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son.

Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."

This is not OFFICIAL. This is just what has been posted. Survived by one teenage son eh? Thats really the only clue and I'm betting it was thrown in there to make it look like Michael. But, it also could really be Michael as that fits in with what we know so far about Jack and Kate's reaction to the news of his death, and what they said, and the fact of no one at his funeral. Yeah, Michael is plausible. Unless of course he dies tonight. :)

And Hoffs Drawlar is an anagram of flash forward, just a little tidbit.

  7. I don't visit any of the forums either. And I even withheld myself from the thread of last week that was popping up daily. That was hard to do, LOL. But I could see that with all of the responses it was going to kill me to read them all.

This thread seems innocent enough - so far! :)

I believe I know the thread you are referring to, and it didn't have any spoilers, just people talking their opinions. I would assume that if anyone was wanting to share a spoiler, they would label it as such so that people (like me) who don't want to know anything spoilerish in any way shape or form could avoid them.

But I don't mind talking opinions and guesses because thats why its such a good show!

And, I too think the question of who is in the coffin is pretty wide open right now. Whoever it is, they died some time after the losties get off the island because the funeral happens well after Jack's "so together he can hold together a lie in an expensive suit" stage, he was falling apart.

    Can't wait for tonight's show!

  8. The easter bunny, easter eggs and easter itself pre-dates christianity. It was originally a pagan holiday, celebrated all over Europe. Like almost all modern christian holidays, when the christians began to take over the pagans and force them to be christians one way they did it was to take over their holidays as well.

Easter, in its various pronunciations, was originally a holiday celebrating spring and renewal of life and the Earth. Eggs and rabbits are obvious symbols of these things. The exchange of eggs by children was done centuries before christians began to celebrate easter. The easter bunny also originated with the pagan celebration of Eastre (etc.) where the pagans paid homage to the goddess Eastre (among others), of whom a rabbit was a symbol. The Germans are the ones who brought the idea of an easter bunny to America, and actually that wasn't even picked up by other christians until after the Civil War. So in America the custom is relatively new, but the "easter bunny" has been around since before there was the christian easter.

  9. A Certain Ambiguity

It's so good I'm limiting myself to a few pages at a time to make it last longer and to give myself time to think about some of the proposed philosophical problems before the answer is blurted out.

What "Sophies World" is to philosophy, this is to math. I'm really anxious for someone else from this board to read this book and tell me what they think.

This looks really really really interesting. Off to locate it at a library or order it. Thanks!

  10. The biggest problem I had scheduling this was actually seasonal timing. So many of the animal labs require live insects, etc. that one finds outside. But, the animal units are in the middle of the book, and thus would fall in the middle of winter. I rearranged things so animal units were first, started in August and still didn't make it through before cold weather hit.

Obviously, if you live where its warm year round this wouldn't be a problem. But if you don't, just giving the heads up. Its a great program, ds really enjoyed it.

  12. Its hard to believe a state as liberal as California can be, would go down this path. And you're right Jen, its opening a huge can of worms. My thoughts are with all you California people. I know if my state made homeschooling illegal or even difficult, I'd move. In a heartbeat. I hope it doesn't come to that for California.

And Mrs. Mungo, I thought the link you provided was GREAT. I opened it up and I was like "Wow! Awesome!" So thanks.

  13. Any chance he will go to therapy?

ETA: Nevermind, I just re-read and it seems he isn't thrilled with the idea. Do you think he would try it if you shared how much it affects you?? Maybe as a try-it-and-see type thing? Does HE want to change, because unfortunately if he doesn't want to change he's unlikely to put forth much effort. Good luck, and good for you for sticking around and trying to help him.

  14. There's no question that Jin's was a flashback, they did go out of their way to make that apparent...that is apparent after you got to thinking about it. They didn't want it to be apparent while it was being viewed because that would've taken away the big shocking reveal: that it was indeed a flashback not a flashforward and Jin and Sun are not together. That was a shocker and if we knew it was coming it wouldn't have had any impact. They wanted you to think it was concurrent with Sun's right up to the very end.

But the year of the dragon was 2001 or 2000, so that was definitely when Jin's flashback occurred.

And I don't think the panda has any real relevance, it is quite a common symbol of good luck in Asian countries. And why would Jin need a constant? He hasn't been slipping around in time and I doubt that he will. No one else on the show needs a constant except Desmond, Minkowski (who didn't find one) and possibly Daniel in a future episode. Barring any unexpected exposure to radiation, no one else on the island currently needs a constant.

While I cannot for the life of me figure out how Jack's father could be Jacob, and while I think that this is HIGHLY improbable...the fact remains that Jack's father was the man shown in the chair in Jacob's cabin when Locke was there the first time with Ben. Perhaps it was the smoke monster taking Jack's father's form? If thats the case then one would assume the smoke monster was Jacob, which I don't buy that either. There's going to be more clues regarding the smoke monster and Jacob.

Oh, and while I keep thinking more and more that Jin may be alive, I think the idea of a camera in the tombstone type thing is a little far fetched, even for Lost. IMHO. But, when you listen to the words Sun says at the gravestone, they don't preclude his death OR his life. It could go either way. **** writers. :) But, I think there's a good case for Jin being alive back on the island, that the something crazy thats going to happen to get anyone off the island meant that only she could go to keep herself and the baby alive without Jin.

  15. Western European. Or, as my mother says of her side of the family, "horse thieves and Civil War deserters". :)

Thats funny, I've got thieves and Civil War deserters in my family too! Hmmmm maybe we're related. :001_huh:

Not like there's really any such thing as full blooded anything, just going back a mere 100 years go to @ 1908 gives most people about 32 different ancestors. There's a slight chance they may all be of the same pureblood ethncity. Go back another hundred to 1808 and now you're talking over 1000 different ancestors (give or take a few, we've been a little less ickly about cousins etc marrying in our past), and there is pretty much *no way* ANYONE is a pureblood anything.

Generally speaking though, in our recent genealogy, my mom's side of the family is predominantly Scots/Irish, and my dad's side of the family is predominantly German.
