THE LEARNABLES The Learnables is a great program to start out with as it is suitable for Grade 2 thru Adult. This is the program my dc started French with, when Ds was 7 and Dd was 4. Holt American Government, Steven Kelman, Holt, Rinehart and Winston pub., hardcover, exc cond -- $9 ppd Recommended in the WTM, this is a good text or spine for studying American government. Maybury, an Uncle Eric book; softcover, Like new -- $9 ppd (Retail: $14.95) This is a great introduction to economics, suitable for upper elementary through early high school. Christian content. STUDY AND RESEARCH SKILLS Learning on Purpose: A Self-Management Approach to Study Skills, The Critical Thinking Co., Softcover; Exc cond* -- $9 ppd (Retail $24.99) For Gr 7-12. My dd used portions of this book in 9th grade. It can be a helpful tool for students to assess themselves, identify how they learn best, and learn how to organize their studying. It would be especially helpful for a student going into public or private school. It is a thick book, covering many different areas and including many helpful assessment and study sheets. You can see it here: http://www.criticalthinking.com/learning-on-purpose-book.html *Some of the worksheet pages in Chapter 1 of my copy were written in lightly with pencil (by my dd.) These marks have all been erased so that the pages are clean and completely usable by another student. The rest of the book has never been written in and is like new. Facts Plus: An Almanac of Essential Information, Susan C. Anthony, Softcover; Exc cond -- $10 ppd (Retail $19.29) This is a fun book full of interesting and helpful information for Gr 3-12. Recommended by a number of homeschooling curricula. A useful resource to have on hand for students learning research skills. FREE FOR THE COST OF SHIPPING Christian Home Educators’ Curriculum Manual: Junior/Senior High, Cathy Duffy, Like new (Retail $22.95) An oldie but a goodie! :) This book is now out of print and has been replaced by Cathy Duffy’s 102 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum (which you can see here: http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/sku/054743) However, this older volume is still a useful resource for planning in the junior and senior high years, and contains a great deal of timeless planning and teaching information from the author, Cathy Duffy. The last third of the book contains Duffy’s reviews of curricula. Although the prices/sources of these are now out of date, and some may no longer be in print, many of the curricula she lists are tried and true, and still available today.

It is pretty much the same course as the current 3rd edition by the same title from the Great Courses series. Mine is the first edition on audio cassettes, so there is no video of the lecturer talking, but the content is the same. You can see the current 3rd edition course and a list of lecture titles (which haven’t changed) here: http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/how-to-listen-to-and-understand-great-music-3rd-edition.html I used this course with my ds (in 9th grade) both for music appreciation and for teaching note-taking from audio lectures. It was very effective for both purposes. College-level content, and occasional mild language in the lectures, so this course is best suited for 9th grade and up. The set consists of 48 lectures, packaged in 6 volumes (Parts 1-6). Each volume contains: -- Eight lectures on 4 audio cassette tapes -- One accompanying study booklet, with handy summaries and charts of major concepts. *This set was given to us by friends who wanted to donate it for use by homeschooling families, so I am offering it for basically the cost of shipping and PayPal fees. 14. Lial maybe? My ds used Lial's Precalculus 3rd edition** with his online precalculus course a number of years ago. It is not graphing calculator intensive at all--you don't even need a graphing calculator, and ds's course did not use them. The text has some problems you can do on a graphing calculator, but these are optional. FWIW, my ds has never owned or used a graphing calculator! (And he has a master's in Comp Sci). He did use some graphing software in calculus at home and advanced calc courses at college, but not in precalc. **If you're interested, I do still have my Lial Precalculus text and the complete Solution Manual that goes with it, which I would be happy to sell. Both are in excellent condition. The text looks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Precalculus-plus-MML-Student-Starter/dp/032123815X/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1512095971&sr=8-6&keywords=lial+precalculus+3rd+edition
  15. Congratulations! She's beautiful!!! And she looks like such a sweetie. She may have more the coat of a lab, but I definitely see tons of golden retriever in her in the photos--the head and body shape, the face and eyes (that classic golden expression!), and the antics! Reminds me so much of our beloved golden retriever that we lost 2 years ago. He also left a big dog-sized hole in our lives... which I am currently filling by adoring other peoples' dogs. ;) I so agree--our sweet puppy (well, he was 6) could never be replaced, but I do hope to get another golden retriever someday. So glad to hear your new pup is filling the void already. :) Wishing you many happy years ahead with her! :)
