OP, was your hair blonde when you were little?  I've known several people whose blonde hair changed to black as they matured, and then they had blonde children. It's quite startling to see them together.

No, my hair has always been black. Same with my husband. Then this little guy comes along looking like a baby chick. 😁

  2. I know genetics can be unpredictable, but I just think it's so funny his dad and I both have jet black hair and yet we ended up with this little blondie. People are always pointing out the contrast and for the most part we have fun with it. Then I'll see a picture like this that makes even me go "Wow!"

(Random, but thanks for letting me share - super bored right now, lol. 😁)

I can't help with jeans (my son is 6'6" but weighs about 220), but if you're looking for good quality, thick, 100% cotton tee shirts that are tall enough for someone 6'6", I highly recommend Key Apparel shirts. They go up to 4XL Tall, and they run really big. For reference, my son normally wears an XL tee shirt in a brand like Nike, and he wears a Medium Tall in this brand. They are plenty long and don't shrink 3" like most cotton shirts. They are the only tees I've ever bought that have stayed long enough after many many washes. They're available with long sleeves too. (Note: the photo in the listing for the tall sizes is the same as the regular sizes — the actual shirt is much longer than it looks in the photo.)

Thank you! He needs some nice big t-shirts and those look great. I can't tell you how often he'll put on a shirt that fit not too long ago and it's just way too small. I think an XLT or 2XLT might work for him if they run big.

And thanks to everyone else who responded with suggestions! 😊

  4. Hello!

I posted a similar question here about a year ago and got some great answers. Well, in that time my son has only gotten bigger thanks to his football weight training program, and he's grown another inch too, defying expectations and surprising all of us. He is now 6'6" and 300 pounds. To give you an idea of how he's built, he's an offensive lineman (and Division 1 college recruit - mommy brag alert). That means broad shoulders, large midsection, and legs like tree trunks.

Unfortunately, we're again having trouble finding clothes that fit well. He doesn't really like the options at places like DXL because they're mostly "dad style". He wouldn't be crazy about me sharing this, but the main problem is that he has a big butt and thighs. We can sometimes find jeans that are long enough, but they're too tight in his rear or won't even pull up at all.

I know it might be a long shot, but does anyone have a teenager or young adult who's around this size? Maybe a fellow football mom? I never dreamed I'd have to shop for someone this big and every time I think I have it down, he grows again.

    Thank you! 😊

  5. Here's the deal: My son has grown rapidly over the last few years. On top of that, he's gotten serious about playing football and has been training and working out to put on weight. (He's an offensive lineman. If you're not familiar, a main part of their job is being big, lol.) At 17 years old, he's currently 6'5" and 285 lbs. He's quite happy about that, but what he's not too pleased with are the stretch marks he's gotten from growing and bulking up so quickly.

He has loads of them on his belly, shoulders, thighs, rear end - basically everywhere he's grown the most. They're not fading and he's starting to get a bit self-conscious. We've tried aloe vera and vitamin E oil but nothing seems to be working. Does anyone have any experience or tips? Thanks!

  6. My son had a huge growth spurt a few years ago, going from one of the shortest boys in his grade all the way to 6'5" now at age 17. Well, after adding all that height so quickly, 2017 was the year he got big. With the help of a football-inspired workout and diet regimen, he packed plenty of muscle onto that lanky, skinny frame. He's now up to around 250 lbs and built like a tank.

The downside is that we need to pretty much replace his entire wardrobe again. Clothes that are long enough don't always fit the size and shape of his body. Jeans that are the right inseam won't pull up comfortably over his thighs and rear. Shirts that fit perfectly months ago now won't button over his chest.

He doesn't like the "dad style" of places like Destination XL and traditional big & tall shops. Anyone have experience in this area and have tips to share? Thanks!  :001_smile:

  7. My 7-year-old had a friend sleep over on Friday night. Yesterday morning I was making them french toast using eggs laid by our chickens. He and his friend came downstairs and walked into the kitchen, where I had the eggs sitting on the counter. DS pointed at them and said loudly, "Those came out of our chickens' butts!"

I couldn't help but burst out laughing. That kid is such a rascal, I swear. I think he was proud to give his friend the "scoop", lol.

  8. My son is 17 and has had a massive growth spurt the last couple years. (I've posted about it here before.) He started high school at around 5'4" and has sprouted all the way up to 6'6". There's nothing medically wrong according to his doctor - he's just very much a late bloomer.

However, growing that quickly left him seriously underweight. As recently as last September he was about 130 lbs. Not good considering the size of his frame. He looked like a baby giraffe.

With the help of a personal trainer and dietician recommended by his doctor and basketball coach, he's worked on adding weight and muscle over the past 10 months. He's in the gym and weight room every day, and eating a diet high in protein.

He weighed in this morning at 172. His first-stage goal was 170 so it was a big deal for him. His next goal is to get over 200. It's been so great to see him put his mind to this, set goals, and succeed.

  9. What amazes me more is to look at little guys like my youngest and realize all that genetic data is already coded in there even when he's a shrimpy little baby. It's mind boggling to see the seed next to the tree, so to speak.

I'm sorry for your boat related injuries  Those shoes start getting ridiculously long!

Almost 13 inches from heel to toe. I know because I just had to measure!

  10. (No, not because of the smell, but that's a close second, lol.)

My 17 year old has always had a habit of leaving his shoes around the house. The only problem is that he wears a size 15 now and those shoes are a serious hazard if you're not looking where you're going. Seriously, these things aren't shoes - they're boats. I must trip over them once a week in our mud room.

I miss a couple of years ago when I only had to dodge his size 9s. I've posted about it before, but this kid has had a massive growth spurt. Used to be small for his age and has inched all the way up to 6'4". (And no one else in our family is that tall!) I look at him and can't believe he's such a big guy now.

  11. My 17-year-old measured measured 6'4" at the doctor this morning. He would have been lucky to scrape 5'6" about two years ago. He had always been one of the shortest boys his age, which makes it so surreal. He's like a completely different person now. He wears a size 15 shoe and eats like a team of horses. (Not cheap, by the way.)

Now I'm wondering if he's going to keep growing in college. Is he going to come home for break with clothes that don't fit anymore? LOL.

  12. I know Plant Therapy has an essential oil blend for growing pains that I just noticed the other day. And I'm sorry if you didn't want suggestions, I remember when I used to get them and they were so uncomfortable!! Hope your son feels better soon!

I definitely am open to suggestions, thank you! I didn't know they had essential oils specifically for growing pains. I'll have to look for that.

Do you have any muscle rub?  That seems to help sometimes.

Also, you can try to give him a pain med like Tylenol or Motrin to help get him through the night.

Hope he feels better and you get some rest.  :grouphug:  Middle of the night pain, gets you a homemade milkshake at my house, so maybe you can try that LOL   It is often chocolate/banana or coconut/banana.  I figure the protein, potassium, calcium and chocolate are all good for the body....so it is like a dose of medicine, wrapped up in love and goodness!

I like the milkshake idea, he would probably love that! I gave him a big glass of milk last night and he was finally able to get to sleep. He was sore this morning but feeling better.

    Thank you everyone! :)

  13. As a very short mom with a very short soon unlikely to grow taller than 5'4", I am happy for you, but just want to put out there that even if the growth spurt didn't come, short is not really that bad of a thing to be. :)

Of course! I'm not particularly tall myself (about 5'5") and we have plenty of shorter family members. That's why it's been kind of a treat to see him grow like this. We love our kids no matter their size though.
