Well, your daughter wasn't too far off about Haiti. They speak both French and Haitian Creole there.

We used Song School Latin last year. I really liked it, and my kids enjoyed the songs and the new words each lesson. It's a gentle introduction to a new language.

My son just had the flu a few weeks ago, and the doctor prescribed Tamiflu. He cautioned us about possible hallucinations as a side effect. Ds didn't have a problem with the Tamiflu, but it sounds like your son might have reacted to the medicine.

Oh, no. I will be praying for that family, and for everyone close to them.

Ditto the plastic knife. Also, try cutting them as soon as they come out of the oven.

What kind of scheduling are you looking at? Keeping track of which students are in which classes? Our co-op has a program in Access that keeps track of family information, student registrations, fees paid, money owed to advisers -- that sort of thing.

You could offer to house sit during the viewing and funeral. Around the time my grandmother passed away, there had been a string of robberies targeting the houses of bereaved families. The funeral times are posted in the paper, so they knew which houses would be empty when. My grandfather's next door neighbor volunteered to stay at the house while the rest of the family was gone, to give us peace of mind.

I agree.
Jamestown is a compound noun - two or more nouns put together into one word.
Captain John Smith is a noun phrase - two or more words representing a single noun (like United States or Mississippi River).

4.How many positive three digit cubes are even?
Positive 3-digit cubes:
4^3 = 64 -- TOO SMALL
5^3 = 125
6^3 = 216
7^3 = 343
8^3 = 512
9^3 = 729
10^3 = 1000 -- TOO BIG
So, out of the 5 possible positive 3-digit cubes, two of them are even.
6. Gary chooses a two digit positive integer, adds it to 200, and squares the result. What is the largest number Gary can get?
The largest 2-digit positive integer Gary can choose is 99. 200 + 99 = 299, which when squared equals 89,401.
I think you already got answers to the other problems.

2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 1/3 c. peanut butter
7 oz. marshmallow fluff
Bring sugar and milk to a boil; boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add peanut butter and fluff, mixing well until smooth. Quickly pour into a buttered 8x8" square pan. Chill until set, then cut into squares. Store at room temperature. Bad for you, but soooo yummy!

I have a 9 year old daughter who would love a penpal. We're in NC.

I would second the Mudpies to Magnets books (there are two of them). They have wonderful ideas, along with a suggested age range for which they'd be appropriate.
Math: shapes and sorting games are always good for pre-school ages. You can also do number scavenger hunts (find 4 leaves, 5 twigs, 3 flowers, etc). This also gets them up and moving, which is always a plus!

Scissors, flashlights, tape, and peace and quiet.

I'll be there Saturday buying curriculum. I always have a great time looking at all the wonderful possibilities!

I live in High Point, which is right next to Greensboro. Both Greensboro and High Point have homeschool support groups and co-op classes available. There are a lot of resources available in this area. I'll send you a PM with my phone number -- I'd be happy to answer any of your questions about the area!

Thanks -- what a deal!

I don't shave my legs -- I haven't since before my first child was born. It seemed like such a waste of time and effort and discomfort! I've gotten only one or two comments about it in all the years since then, and they were hardly more than and acknowledgement of my "quirkiness" and individuality.
I do shave my armpits, though, because I tend to have more BO with hairy armpits.
I won't ever push my daughter to shave unless she wants to.

I agree with much of what has been posted. Our instructor requires that teachers AND parents sign off on behavior outside of class before students are allowed to test for their next belts. A martial artist's character is just as important, if not more important, than their physical skills. An instructor who focuses on one without the other is doing a great disservice to his students.

Peter Jackson and the Olympians was hit with my kids.

That sounds good to me, too. I like being able to split it into some shallow reading categories as well as doing some more in-depth study.
BTW, even though they are not part of this board, my parents have both been doing the reading challenges with us the last two years. It's fun to hear what they've been studying!

If you have any soda, you could do a "cola roast." Add the onion soup mix along with two cans of Coke (not diet). Makes a great, moist roast!

We have a "gift closet," where we keep birthday and Christmas gifts as needed. We tell them to stay out of it, and they do. Never once have they even attempted to peek. I was like that as a child, too, but it still amazes my husband.

2) USA
3) DD8, DS7 (they were in the same group for these projects)
Do you think animals have a 6th sense?

I'm not sure. A lot of the "odd" behavior dogs exhibit can be traced to their heightened senses -- sniffing out cancer or being better attuned to the weather. There are a few things our dog does, though, which I have never been able to explain.
There is a man who walks by our house several times a week. This isn't unusual, as we live in a quiet neighborhood and there are quite a few walkers and bicyclers that go by throughout the day. Our dog will sometimes sit at the window and watch people pass, but unless they have a dog with them she is quiet. This one man, though, is different. She reacts to him EVERY TIME. Barks, hackles up, low growls, the works. Even when she's seen him multiple times a week for the past ten years. Even when she is asleep across the room with the doors and windows shut, she will leap to her feet and race to the window and start barking. I can't explain how she knows he's there, but she does. I don't know the man, and I can honestly say I never want to; her reaction really freaks me out.
