  1. So it was Andrew and Katie. Hate to see anyone's dreams squashed, but I can't say I'm sorry.

Nooooooooooooo- A spoiler alert would have been nice! :001_smile:

We are 2 days behind here, so the 2 go home tomorrow night ( Fri)

If this is the case then- Im happy with that result, as I wasn't keen on either Andrew or Katie.

  2. It sounds like you are one of those people who sweat a lot. I am one of them. My dad is the same way while my mom never sweats. From my experience, it's nothing you are doing, and it is just our lot in life. Many people who do not sweat much cannot understand overactive sweat glands.

I even sweat in the winter/when I'm cold if I am nervous or around people.

This was me. I suffer from a mild case of hyperhidrosis. The only thing that has works for me is Driclor, which I now only have to apply once a week ( sometimes less).

I have almost become used to the sting, after applying it to freshly shaven underarms.:D

  3. My DS began 7th grade this year ( we school Feb - Dec, so are about 8 or 9 weeks into Yr 7)

    English: LLATL (tan book)

    Vocab: books from Oz

Spelling: own word lists this year ( focusing on foreign words)

Math: MUS Pre-Algebra & Honors and moving in Algebra later in year.

Science: God's Design ( Plants, Our Weather & Water, Machines and Motions, Properties of Matter)

    History: SOTW Vol 2

Geography and Art: my own thrown together lessons :D

He will be attending school either end of this year or beginning of next year.

  4. Let me start by saying, I was never interested in cars until my DH bought me a Mazda 3 ( Maxx Sport, in Titanium Grey).

I *loved* that car. For the 1st time ever, I could understand how and why people become car enthusiasts...lol.

I only had my Mazda for about 18 months ( maybe less), then we moved overseas. I gave my car to the in-laws, and my MIL who drives it thinks its a beast! She too loves the car ( affectionately known as Milly)

Mine was straight of the boat 2004, and I never had any issues with maintaining it. It was only ever used to take the kids to school ( when I was too lazy to walk them) and groceries etc.

It just had its 50,000 km service! I want it back now.

  5. Thanks so much for the hugs.

I have read my post back, it it seems so silly and trivial, but it was picking up the wrong meal at KFC that sent me over the edge!

Kate, I usually shop at Sharjah Co-Op. Love the range and fruit and veg always seem decent, but I knew car wasn't going to get me to Spinneys in Ajman, so was really hoping that I would find a stray bunny somewhere, hiding in the chocolate isle.:D

    I will end up making a basic cake ( 2 x circles makes a bunny-right?)...lol

Yep, same car that has been giving me grief since Oct or November. It's so frustrating. Some days it drives like a dream, and others it's down right scary. Worst part is, I just got it back from having it serviced ( and looked over...again).

DH wont be back at the palace until Sunday, so will see what strings he can pull - or at least find someone to help him out with what ever paper work needs lodging.

Meant to say too- at this stage, either of the dates sound fine for star gazing. It * should* be DH, myself and 3 kiddies.

  6. It's 7pm here, and my night sucks big time.

Dh was due home tonight. He is currently working in Bahrain, but was flying into the UAE tonight to spend tomorrow with us, then back to Bahrain on Sat morning. We have been looking forward to seeing him.

I have spent the entire day cleaning:fresh linen on the beds ;) ,dusted, vacuumed, mopped, mopped again after one child ran through the house with a nasty blood nose and another with a cut foot.

DH just rand from Bahrain saying airport staff are refusing to allow him to exit the country. When he arrived in Bahrain, he was traveling with 2 passports. One is full, and has his UAE residency stamp in it ( so needs it to enter the country), the other is new ( old one is full), and it has his working visa for Bahrain in it.

When he entered Bahrain, his entry stamp was put in the wrong passport ( old one). Apparently it should have been in other passport ( not his fault).

The staff tried to rectify it at the airport, but there was an English barrier, plus DH needs his passports to enter his work site each day ( working for the Royal Family)- so couldn't leave passports behind.

Anyway, he arrives at airport tonight, and has been refused an exit stamp. DH is soooo angry- he now has to find accommodation again for a few more days, and he just dropped off the hire car.

Friday and Saturday's are weekends here, so no government offices will be open again until Sunday. *sigh*

I know things could be worse, but the kids ( and I ) were so looking forward to seeing him tonight ( I worked my butt off today )

It meant I had to drive down to the supermarket to grab Easter Eggs for Sunday, and my car was playing up horribly ( kept stalling and losing power steering). Got to supermarket- and as we dont live in a western/Christian area, there are no Easter Eggs...lol. Thought I was going to cry in the supermarket.

There is a western supermarket that I sometimes go to, and I know they will have eggs, but I can't trust my car to now get me there! So, mini Twix and Mars Bars it is for Sunday.

And, to top my night off, I grabbed greasy KFC for tea ( as it was next to supermarket), and I have come home with wrong order! I'm not driving the car again, so I'm sitting here trying to tell my mouth that the spicy Twister really is delicious.

Sorry all, I just needed to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening ( if you haven't got bored and wandered off)

    * edited to say that the whole reason DH was coming home was that we have some really important decisions to make this coming week, and it was easier to make them, if we were able to chat face to face.*

  7. A little background information.

We are moving back to Australia in the middle of July.

I have been researching schools and our schooling options ( whether to continue homeschooling, enrolling kids in school part time or full time)

Anyway, a lot of schools hold scholarship exams early in the year, for intake the following year. Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the principal, and may be for part tuition, full scholarships, 1 year, 6 years etc.

I organised for my older 2 children to sit the exams, purely based on my selfish reasons. I have been struggling over the past year, and really wondered whether we were making any progress etc ( silly, irrational thoughts I know, but I felt like we needed someone to assure ME that I was doing an OK job)

So in Feb, the kids sat the exams here ( thanks to a school here which offered to have the kids sit them at their school)

We received their results last week, and were thrilled with the results! Both scored really well in all 5 areas tested.

We had to request which schools we wanted our results sent to, which I did ( we choose 2 schools)

We received an email from 1 school last week saying although the kids results were excellent, unfortunately no scholarship will be offered.

No problems here, as we had told the kids that the chance of getting one was slim-to-none.

Then, I open up my emails last night to find this email from another school.

    Dear ----------,

The children are to be congratulated on their efforts in the recent scholarship examinations.

I am just checking to see you have received the documentation my Principal, Mr ---------------, sent out to you last week offering scholarships.

If you have not received the paperwork or have any questions feel free to email or call --------------

    Regards

    --------------------

So- does this mean what I *think* it means??

Did the children just win scholarships to our states best regional school??

    Is this just wishful thinking?

I have emailed the writer of the email back, stating we have yet to receive documentation via email or postal, but just realised that school holidays just started in our home state and schools are off for 2 weeks. :svengo:

    I don' think i can wait 2 weeks...lol

  8. There was 7 1/2 years difference between child #2 and 3 ( #1 was 9 when LO was born)

I was really nervous during the later stages of the pregnancy as:

    a) I knew my DH would be overseas when I delivered

    b) My OB didn't want to induce me- I was *begging* for one, as I was scared I would go into labour alone at night. My other 2 delivers were induced. I had never started labour naturally, so was nervous as to what to expect.

Eight days overdue, I woke up and felt really down. I was missing DH ( whom I wasn't going to see for another 9 -10 months, I was tired and just needed reassurance all would be OK)

That morning, I called my MIL and best friend ( who lived 3 hrs away) and asked if they wanted to spend the afternoon with me ( afternoon tea, walk etc)

They arrived and we all had a great afternoon. They stayed until later and fed the older 2 kids dinner while I had a nice relax ( and cry) in the bath. DH called and we chatted and he did his best to remind me that the baby will come when it was ready etc

Got out of bath about 2 hrs later,( so much more relaxed) and my best friend grabbed so takeaway for us. I told her and MIL to leave as it had been a long day and BF had a loooooongg drive home.

They said they would go after we ate. Sat down on couch and 2 mouthfuls in, had a pulling sensation in my belly. Had to stop eating for a moment. Picked up plate and resumed chatting and eating. A few mins later same happened again. BF was saying I was in labour! I was in denial!

But- I was! The 3 of us were so excited! I walked around the house, did the ironing, washed dishes etc- just kept moving.

I was not in any pain, in fact I hadn't laughed so hard in a long time. Each time a contraction came, I put a warm rice pack in the front of my pants and just kept walking.

About 40 mins into labour, I had 3 big contractions, that I couldn't walk through ( or barely talk though). My BF called the hospital and said we were coming in. Arrived, walked into maternity ward. Met my midwife ( lovely). She got us settled. I asked not to be checked at that stage as I felt it was early on still and didn't want to be disappointed if she said I was 3 cm's!

She watched me through 2 more contractions ( I was back to chatting etc), and she ran me the bath. I was stripping off and asked to sit on the bed for a moment. ( my contractions showed no pattern to them- some were 3 mins apart, then 8 mins, then 5 mins etc)

Then I delivered my daughter- no pushing- she just slid out as I moved up the bed ( waters broke during delivery). Caught everyone by surprise!

Labour lasted 1 hr, 15 mins. Easy delivery ( like #2 - no stitches or intervention for delivery)

My midwife kept commenting how wonderful the experience had been for her. The love and laughs shared between us all when I arrived really amazed her. We laughed right up to delivery and then laughed after!

Apart from losing a lot of blood after the delivery- it all went really, really well.. I felt so empowered after going the pregnancy and delivery alone- and my OB was right- it was best to wait until baby was ready.

I love my older 2 kids, but #3 changed our family dynamics for the best. Hard to explain.

Sorry, just realised this answer was so long!

  9. Pottery Barm and Pottery Barn Kids opened a store in the UAE this week,( in Dubai) and I dragged DH and the kids to the mall today to check it out.

The selection of decent children's homewares has been, until this week, dire!

I had a wonderful time, walking around with my catalogue, drooling over everything. Then DH took the kids bowling and told me to have a wander by myself and enjoy. That I did!

Many dirhams later, I left the store, bags in hand ( and in trolley) a very happy woman!

    :hurray::hurray:

  10. Thank you!!! I wonder if it's my blog or if it's on your end. Hmmmm... Anyone else having trouble??? Thanks for letting me know.

I think it is me. There were about 4 blogs I couldn't leave comments on. I need to set up a google account to make a comments on a few blogs, so will look into doing that this week some time.

  11. Here is our living math update.

Here is our week in review.

I hope that everyone had a fabulous week!

For some reason I couldn't comment on your math blog. So I cut and paste what I was trying to say..lol

Wow- what a fantastic week with living math! We haven't covered a lot of work on graphing- but you have inspired me to grab down the whiteboard and draw up a graph ( or 2...lol)

    * just realised I couldn't comment on main blog either. Not sure what I am doing wrong, so will try again later ( when not as frustrated!)*

  12. We will be in just shy of 5 months.

We will be building a home on some land we have in Oz.

We won't be too self sufficient for a while, but hoping that within a year or so, the crops will yield enough to start making a difference in our grocery bills etc.

We will be planting vegies ( for personal use, and any extras will be sold at the local market/bartered for services) and an orchard ( 300 +) trees.

We will also be 'farming' trees- with about 3,500 being planted to use for firewood and to be sold for wood chips etc.

The house will not be connected to any utility providers, so will be powered by solar and wind power.

Our water supply will be the rain caught in many tanks, and even our toilets will be waterless ( making hu-manure for the trees)

We are planning on having a few chickens for eggs and maybe a few ducks ( only because the LO is fascinated with them...lol)

My husband has just returned from Oz, after submitting our plans to the local council. We are all very excited- it is going to be a huge learning curve for us all- but we are ready for a new adventure!

  13. Thanks ladies!

I seriously thought there was something wrong with me. I have to try and get the giggles out of my system before we chat.

Maybe I can see myself in them- the whole " My mum and dad do WHAT???" :D:D

They have both browsed through the book, and we will have our 1st real chat/question and answer session tomorrow.
