  1. I have a VERY strong-willed DD. She is 4, and wants to have everything on her terms. She refuses my help 90% of the time and will only learn new concepts (such as reading) when she wants to. Is this normal?? Will she grow out of it? I like her expressing her own opinions, but it is frustrating when I know she can do something and she refuses to. Help, please!!!

  2. I agree with MonaLisa. I think the important part is making sure they understood what they read, without it being super long. As she gets better, they will naturally increase in length and detail. And don't worry if her answers don't match exactly. Everyone has a different perspective and this will slant the answers. As long as she gets the big picture, she will be fine.

  3. In my state (FL), we are required to give notice for ALL children who are Kindergarten level or higher. My 5-year-old starting K this year needed her Letter of Intention submitted, but my 4-year-old (who is doing K level curriculum) does not need a letter until her official K year. Hope this helps!!! We don't need separate letters for each child, but must include all school-age children's names, dob, and start date. We must also submit this letter no later (but can be earlier) than 30 days after the start date...in my opinion, earlier is safer.

  4. We really like Artistic Pursuits. They have three books in their K-3 series, and the first one would work well with both levels. You really only need a day to complete the lessons, and my kids love it! It is a combo art study vs. project making. A little pricey, but non-consumable and well worth it.

  5. We LOVE AAR Pre-level 1! My 4-year-old already knew the alphabet (upper- and lowercase) and knew all of the letter sounds but refused to learn how to read (even though she would sound out words fine), so I was sharply debating my purchase of Pre-level 1. I purchased it anyway, deciding that I would use it with the next one when he was old enough, but began using it with dd. She cannot get enough of it!! And it has really, really helped her. It has introduced concepts to her that we have not focused on, and she begs to do this every day. In fact, today (Saturday) she cried when I told her we did not have school today. When I decided just to let her do her lessons, she completed 5 in a row and I had to put a stop to it so we will have things to do this week! We are in the middle of learning how to clap out syllables, and every word she has said she proceeds to clap out! I highly recommend this curriculum, even if your four-year-old is advanced!

  6. I love box days! I already had the majority of mine, but it was fun while it lasted. I have just a few trickling in every now and then. I feel like it is Christmas for me! I hope your coming days will be better:)
