  1. I just ordered Phonetic Zoo (spelling) and Student Writing Intensive, and I am wondering if I made a mistake by not ordering the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style as well. I used up all my budget for curriculum this year, and don't need to spend another $169!

Does anyone else use SWI without TWSS? Does it work well?

  2. I will be using it next year. I recently purchased Heart of Wisdom (Robin's book), and fell in love. I'm already incorporating her ideas for spelling and vocabulary. I purchased the Creation, Light, and Energy unit study ebooks for science for next year a few weeks ago when they were only $7.99.

I really look forward to using it full-boat next year :D

  3. I am using Pre-A with my daughter, and we did the Checklist Challenge today. As we were working through it, I realized the one line they give to re-write the sentence isn't enough.

For example, in this lesson, first you circle the verb. Then you change a boring verb to a strong verb. Then you add an adverb. Then you add an adjective. So each time you do this, are you supposed to re-write the sentence with the newly added words? Or, do you cram it in and make arrows where it goes? I was curious how you did this.

I am almost thinking of taking half a sheet of paper, writing the sentence in the middle, and then there's plenty of space around to write the additional words, making arrows to where they should go. (IEW does something like this).

Thanks in advance for the advice!

  4. I don't see a Table of Contents sample on their website (tfths.com), but exactly how do they break up the curriculum? Is it by weeks? If so, how many weeks are included?

I ordered last week, and it shipped Friday via Media Mail. I am anxiously awaiting for it to arrive. Thanks so much!

  5. There are end-of-lesson activities but they are optional in my book. They *do* help, but you don't *need* to do them.

Doing a timeline along with MOH is highly recommended. Linda Hobar (author) has all the info you need in the book. I get my timeline figures from homeschoolinthewoods.com, but you can also make your own and there are outline figures, etc., in the MOH Yahoo Group. This can be done independently.
