  1. My 11 is doing a lego submission project and needs a (H) and (Z) letter connected for print on robot, board, and pamphlet.  He just needs someone to impose the letter (Z) into the letter (H) right where the brigade of the H is.  His robot is called HelperZoid =) thus the HZ logo.  We have creative design studio and photoshop pro but can not figure out how to put the two letters together.

Please let me know if you can help.  I even tried to print both letters, cut and glue them, then scan to get the look.  NO SUCCESS!!  Anyone know how to get this done or can do for minimal fee.  Do you know someone we can solicit help from? Any help/advice would be great.

  3. Thought I should move post over here because DS is 8 and I wanted someone to respond :)

I am just frustrated with helping DS with reading. He reads below grade level (2.5 and should be 3 or higher) and forgets what he reads if it is at his level and more than 10 pages. When anyone else tells him something about decoding, etc he listens and retains the information instantly. Therefore, it is time to outsource reading because he is getting no where with me.

I feel like this is my only option because reading is the foundation to everything, IMO. Local Reading Camp was a no-no because it was whole word approach and basically ignores all the phonics he has learned thus far. They said its only so such phonicetic lessons a person can have and the reason is memorization. Again DS is a fast learner and retains information instantly (long term), so I pulled him because he started reading and would skip the words he didn't know or replace the word with a word he did know.

Is it possible to outsource Reading?

He just doesn't want to learn to read from me (he is frustrated with me also). He enjoy every subject we do but reading, feeling is mutual.

If like a bad mom because I can't teach my kid to read at his grade level and he has the capacity to learn to read pass his grade level. Please help us. How do I find someone to improve his reading? We're currently in S. California

  5. At what age do you read a classic to a child? Ex. Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Alice In Wonderland, etc,

My kids (ages 2,4,6,8) love the Velveteen Rabbit and Peter Rabbit:bigear: They run off or start chatting to each other (not about the book), or draw and write letters; whenever I begin to read Mary Poppins or Alice. I do have to stop and explain words but nevertheless they do not seem interested (even when I use the voices). I stop reading both after 3 chapters and no one has ask to finish it  They begged me to finish a Magic Tree House, Hansel and Gretel and Rumplestilikin (original w/o pics).

Is this the wrong age group to visit classics?

Should I just continue reading despite what is happening around me? They are hearing parts of the story but not the details, should I start questioning them after every chapter? My goal is to expose them to all the literature classic through quality time read a louds. They are free to self read anything they want, just as long as they read; DS despise self reading time.

    Any suggestions?

  6. It's not just here but other sites also. It's frustrating! Sony's Network is completely down so ds can't watch netflix on tv. Rumor has it that major servers were hacked this week causing anarchy; down servers, website errors, release of personal information and emails.

Just shows how much we depend on the internet, ten years ago who would have imagine that we would be so dependable on the web.

BTW the Mods post HERE regarding problems on this board

  7. How do you find a Skype tutor? Its time for me to out source two subjects but we can not leave the nest. I need a reading teacher to take over lessons for DS and a language teacher for DD dialect. Due to our schedule it would be great to have a online tutor for this, I figure its cheaper then having someone come over to do it.

    Thanks for any assistance.

  8. Okay, so my 2 kids are speeding thru All About Spelling level 1, is this normal? My DD (K) is on step 10 and DS (2nd) is on level 19 after a week. They want to do it everyday and complete more steps. They are spelling the list words perfect in the previous step, via other curriculum, and they mastered the key card (rules). Therefore, they are retaining the information.

My concern is am I teaching this right? We can do three steps in twenty minutes. DD cries to do more steps and now to prevent meltdowns, we use a timer. We but agreed that 20 minutes is the limit. As for DS, he spells fast and we can complete 3 steps in one day. I have use a day of review (no book lesson) and spelling test to see if the information is being retained. They both get 100% but still I wonder.

How long should the step in level one take? I don't see how these lessons in level one could take more than 5-10 minutes. Does the lessons take longer in AAS2 or does the child take longer to grasp some concepts causing the lesson to take longer?

  9. Thank you for responding.

Ok, the magnetic letter tiles I have are color coded. I just want to get started now and not have to wait for more material to arrive.

I have magnetic letter tiles and unifix cubes with blue consonants (including qu together), red vowels, purple vowel teams, blue consonants blend, and unifix only white prefix/suffix. Therefore, after reading the level one lesson I thought that these will work out great.

Am I missing something here? Are you telling me I need the letter tiles to make this truly effective? So I can't start level one until the tiles arrive?

  10. Can you do All About Spelling without the letter tiles? I have tons of magnetic letters. I don't want to cough up the money if I don't have too. So can I do the program without the tiles? Can I make my own blend cards? Or do you NEED the tiles for this program to be effective?

    Thanks
