I love this thread as I've had these conversations for years. When I was a child I read my mother's cosmetology textbook for fun (yes, I'm a geek). Anyway, even in the 60s it stated that what is done to the surface of the hair has no effect on what goes on in the follicle.
And, FWIW, I only shave my legs consistently below the knee. The hair on my thighs is blond. I have shaved it on and off throughout my life and it is still blond. Hair changes throughout your life due to many things, but what you do to it at the surface of the skin isn't one of them.
Interesting conversation. I have to ask, what is the color of your hair below your knee now? I only ask b/c I only shaved above my knee until I was 21. Now the hair above my knee is baby fine and blonde like it was when I started shaving when I was 12 but the hair below my knees is black and stayed course and black for the entire two years I went without shaving. :tongue_smilie:

I wouldn't want my birthday to always be on a Wednesday.
I agree. I enjoy the years when my birthdays, or dh's and the kids' birthdays, fall on weekends. It is always pleasant when our celebrations can fall on the actual day. I would hate to be stuck with a life time of week day birthdays. :tongue_smilie:

I have 5 girls and if they were not mine I would not realize they are sisters. I cannot get over how different they each look.

I want to say it was $30. It was a simple white sleeveless. Perfect for a wedding at Cupid's Chapel of Love.

My dh said that maybe the school called her family and so they went to go and buy it. For some reason that makes me feel really bad. I am weird.
-
I am sorry.
I have probably made comments like those out of my on insecurities to my sil. She is tiny. I never meant them in a mean way but I can see how they could hurt. I will watch myself from now on.
Thank you for being honest.

Oh, my! How odd. I'm so glad you got it, but I wish we knew what happened! Maybe she forgot them school and the parents ran her over to get them. I can't imagine she just decided to hold onto them, what would a kid do with restaurant gift cards on her own?
Yes this is what I am thinking now as well. Though my 7yo went through a pretty rough stage of taking things that didn't belong to her. Once I found her baby sister's bottle in her hiding spot. Like I said earlier, "Kids!"

Well, if you could hurry up, I'd appreciate it. I'm sort of bored and plus I'm intrigued and want to know how this will play out! :P (And of course I am hoping you get your gift cards)!
I will grant your wish.
She just showed up at my door with the gift card. Her dad drove her over but he didn't get out and I was too much a wimp to ask what happened. I just smiled and said, "Oh, thank you very much." She did not say anything.

I didn't mean to hound you! I know you'll get to it when you can.
Get off my back woman!
Seriously, I didn't feel hounded. I was just making conversation. I have been a long time lurker and suddenly have jumped in. Might as well make the most of it. :001_smile:

I dislike having to take all 5 girls to one appointment. Often times it is a necessity though.
-
But you said that the school confirmed that she received cards. So she did order at least some cards. Either way, you will need to address this with the parents.
I know I need to address the parents. My 2yo is sick so I have to wait for my dh to get home before I can walk over there. It is a few blocks over.
I am just posting here as a way to vent my feelings and gain some perspective. Initially I was quite angry but instead of stewing in that I have now recalled that I have done something similar (though worse financially).
-
Did the teacher not pass them out?
Perhaps not. The girl told me that they had an assembly to announce that they would not be able to give them out until the new year because one little boy had sold over 300 cards and the restaurant had to order more. That is a rather elaborate cover story for not receiving them though.
This sounds very likely to me unless she took your cash and didn't order your cards.Unfortunately this is what I am thinking but I would be pleased to be proved otherwise.
Now I have to be honest and say that I actually did that as a child which is why my mind is going there. Only my crime involved chocolate bars for the band. I think I ate $70 worth. :001_huh: Kids!

Wow, that's....strange! I wonder why the girl would lie about it?! What would she possibly have to gain by that?
Do you think you should call the girl over if she's still in the yard and give her a chance to fess up? Something like, "Honey, I just called the school to ask about when the gift cards were going to be in and they said that they DID all get sent home today, including the ones you ordered. What's going on?"
Or would you be more comfortable just going to the parents and bringing it to their attention?
This is what I was going to do, but my dd heard me on the phone and ran out to tell her. The little girl ran home.
I am not excited about talking to her parents because I have actually never met them before.
-
Call the girl's mom to clarify. Tell her that the school said that they were given out today. Hopefully the little girl got her facts wrong.
Yes. I will do this in person. I do not know her number.
The lady on the phone did verify that this girl received her cards.

I purchased some gift cards to a local restaurant from dd's neighborhood friend who was selling them as a fundraiser for her school. The information advertised them as great Christmas gifts. I paid cash.
The little girl just showed up to play in my yard after her last day of school until after the new year. She says that the school did not get the cards in time and will give them out in the new year.
I felt weird about it so I called the school. They verified that all the cards were given out today.

Wait....It's a BOY thing? I think my girls missed the memo :glare::lol:
No joke!
I have 5 girls and they all think it is hilarious. Well, not the baby but I assume she will learn soon enough.
I have managed to teach them that they need to go to the bathroom to release their gas during meal times. Any other time is fair game though. Thanks dh.

agh. I had it but then it said I could only get 25 to update my cart. I did and it said all gone. sigh. Now it is 6.99 a ream.

We're doing Beyond and I don't love it. I feel I change too much to make it worth it BUT I do LOVE the reading lists and questions and all that. My son is doing the emerging reader and my daughter does Level 2 DITHOR (without the DITHOR--just the book selection). I also dropped LHTH for my 4yo. I won't be using it next year but that's just my preference.
This exactly.
I think my problem is I really need to be running Beyond and Preparing but chose to just do Beyond. I am tweaking it so much that it is not easy but rather more annoying than any program I have tried before. At this point, I have dropped all of it except for the History Read alouds and the accompanying history/geography lesson. I could do two programs next year but have decided that for the amount of time involved, I might as well do what I really want instead of HOD.

The reaction is overblown.
However, I used to work overnight at a 24hour Walmart. Each night I would have to deal with dozens of half eaten or eaten products. People were forever grabbing candy bars, pastries, snacks, drinks, and chips to graze on while shopping. If they were asked, they would pay. If they weren't noticed they would just chuck the empty or half empty wrapper/package on the shelf and move on. "Grazing" is illegal here and in fact, as an employee, you could be fired immediately for doing it.

While I would love a Honda, we will most likely never be able to afford one.
I fit 5 carseats into my Dodge Grand Caravan. It is a 2006. I have owned it for 5 years and the only major work I have put into it is having the water pump replaced 2 years ago. It is a great van.

I had it for a year free through Amazon Mom then when it ran out they gave me the option of renewing for half price and I took it. I like realizing I need something, ordering it and not getting charged shipping.
