  1. Hi there, My DD is in the same grade. We also struggled to find a medium, AIG is too difficult and the others were too simple. I found the best curriculum was actually ACSI Science - completely Christian. It is a full curriculum, you can add in reading books from the library from the books they recommend for the subjects and it covers all the right stuff. I found Grade 1 too easy for us and decided to go with Grade 2 ACSI - you can get it from Christianbook.com This is the best Christian science program I found. Good luck, :001_smile:
  2. We did this last year and I would just give you encouragement to hang in there. The benefits of this curriculum out weight the difficulties at the start. Things to do shake up and change. My DD has grown in leaps and bounds from LTR. She can read a NIRV Bible, spell incredibly from all the rules she has learnt from LTR. That program is the most incredible I have laid eyes on. Don't give up! Keep it up and you will reap the benefits later. Try rewards/incentives for your son for finishing a lesson well - at the end of the week reward him by going for a swim or another treat. Good luck
  3. Does anyone have any idea of how to see a sample of the VP lesson plans, that have the scripted lessons for parents to teach with. If anyone uses them, can they explain how much info and what they have in them? Are they worthwhile? Thanks in advance!
  4. I am trying to decide which curriculum would suit us for 2nd/3rd Grade Geography. I am looking for something: - that has some guidance with commentary, not just a list of books and chapters - something that gives guidance with discussion questions etc - that covers the whole world (not earth science geor), more cultures - that is from a Christian perspective - that includes great books - that has a variety of different types of discussion questions, not the same task/activity that is suggested for every new country - I am not too hung up on "having to have to have" crafty stuff... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  5. Thank you very much! In Adventures, was there the same format for writing out the sentences, or did it vary? Like was the questioning for the notebooking different each time, e.g Using a sentence describe x, y, z OR always write 1 sentence about x, y, z From the Adventures sample is appears to me, and I could be wrong of course, that it seems to be cut and dry. Read chapter. Then discuss names of God, then do next thing etc. It doesn't appear to flow gently between finishing one task to the next, even within the same subject. BUT this could be because I guess I prefer a little scripting to help me make the lesson flow more. ;) So it could be my personality. I am not very good with coming up with my own discussion questions on my own, :001_huh: Not sure why I can't!!! Boo! :001_huh: So I am looking for something that guides me a little, helps with giving me ideas for dicussion. And not just the same writing exercise with every new topic. I hope that makes sense. Which one would work better for us?
  6. Hiya, From the samples this is what I can see, can anyone confirm whether this is true for the entire programs of each and in comparison to each other? - I am only comparing the history compartments (well at least from mFW) MFW Adventures, from the sample: Appears to list which books to read and when. There isn't any commentary on the books, or commentary of how to introduce the book or topic. HOD Beyond, from sample: Appears to have some commentary that outlines the key topic and gives the parent some ideas of what questions to ask in relation to a listed book or chapter. So, it looks like MFW sorts of just list the books/chapters and you are on your own with chatting to your kids about it. Is this correct? What I can't see in MFW Adventures - maybe someone can help...Does MFW Adv have any writing exercises for the students in relation to the history/geo sections? Or just reading or crafts activies? Is this correct? Thank you in advance
