  1. Thanks, I'll look into that today. My only other experience with a spelling program is Sequential Spelling. However, my intuition is that he would find all the word variations overwhelming. Sequential Spelling works very well for his memory-talented older sister.
  2. My 4th grader has been studying spelling through Spelling Power for years, but we are making very slow progress. I feel the main problem is that memorization does not come easily to him. We follow the program rules, except for doing the extension study "games". My child would hate them, and I'm not convinced they would help him given he would hate the process so much. He has been practicing all missed words through the multi-step system of Spelling Power and reviewing words and word lists as needed (lots needed!). Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative spelling program? I don't feel a phonetic-based program will help since so many English words do not follow phonics rules, thus causing his confusion and need to memorize. Ultimately, from my perspective, spelling is about memorization. Or, am I missing something? Do any programs better suit a child who lacks memorization skills?
