  1. I love NC and have lived here most of my life. It depends on what your dh's line of work is as far as job market. Many places around here are cutting back. We lived in the Winston-Salem area for 17 years and I loved it. The NCHE conference is held there each May.

Homeschooling is easy. I keep an attendance record and test each year between the ages of 7 and 16. I don't know about resources for autism.

  2. We participated for two years. The program we were involved with included some homeschool mothers teaching and some people that were talented musicians and artisits. It was a drop off program so I could run errands while dd attended. It's been several years since we have been involved due to our moving.

  3. My boys have retained the history sentences and science questions and answers well. We didn't emphasize the latin, math, and timeline memory work as much. This year we will try to master the timeline. We enjoyed our group and it was good for us to have that outlet for fellowship.

As far as prep time, I'm not sure. I was an Essentials Tutor last year and tried to plan out 4 to 6 weeks in advance. My personality is to be a planner and organizer though.

  4. I just turned 40 and will have my 4th sometime in the next month. I took fertility pills to have my first child and just got pregnant with the next two. Doing nothing to prevent pregnancy there will be a little over seven years between my son and this new baby.

This pregnancy has been more difficult due to the gestational diabetes being harder to control. I have to go to the doctor twice a week for non-stress tests and bio-physical ultrasounds. My goal is to have a healthy baby so we are doing what it takes to get her here safely. I don't regret being pregnant and look forward to holding this little one.

  5. I ordered recently from Nicki's. Shipping was free. I can't remember if it was because I ordered a certain amount or just there policy.

I ordered diaper, covers, and pail from there. It's been 7 years since I've had a baby so was starting over with those things. I had a diaper service with the other children so it will be different having to wash my own diapers. I'm sure it will be fine though.

  6. Someone once told me they used the work-serve-learn pattern when kids complained of being bored. The example was given was: do a chore, write a letter to a shut in/grandparent, learn to type, sew, etc.

Also, I printed off a list of 200 ideas for summertime. Here are a few of the suggestions: skate, shoot basketball, play a board game, jump rope, make homemade play dough, press fowers, write a letter, vacuum, draw, color, pull weeds, collect rocks, nature walk, play dress up, build a fort in your room or outside.

  7. Here are some thing I've done to help my son that has trouble writing due to fine and gross motor skill problems.

I let him dictate to me and I write.

I use a dry erase board. I put pages of math fact drills in page protectors and let him use the dry erase marker.

I've set the timer for 15 minutes, let him take a break to do jumping jacks, and then start another 15 minutes.

Ds's problems are motor related, not academically related so the above may not even help.
