I love NC and have lived here most of my life. It depends on what your dh's line of work is as far as job market. Many places around here are cutting back. We lived in the Winston-Salem area for 17 years and I loved it. The NCHE conference is held there each May.
Homeschooling is easy. I keep an attendance record and test each year between the ages of 7 and 16. I don't know about resources for autism.

Hi Georgia,
I'm looking for a challenge 1 program for next year. I'm going to pm you.

My dd is doing level 2 this year, and she needed to be able to outline before starting. My 5th grader is doing the outlining book by Remedia Press in order to be able to do the level 2 work in HO.

Did you email Greg Stockton? On the main page there is a map to click on to look for locations.

I would get the Foundations book because it has the memory work for all three cycles. The cds only have the memory work for one cycle.

My son is in 5th grade and likes Wordsmith Apprentice. He loves comics and there are comics through out the book. It isn't on the level of IEW as far as teaching writing. However, he can do it independently and this year with a new baby we needed that. We can work more with the IEW next year.

We participated for two years. The program we were involved with included some homeschool mothers teaching and some people that were talented musicians and artisits. It was a drop off program so I could run errands while dd attended. It's been several years since we have been involved due to our moving.

For a newborn I like the prefolds with covers. Prowraps work well for me,no leaks. When you buy 6 there is a discount. For overnight, I like the Bumgenious or Fuzzibuns. Nicki's diapers has free shipping for some items.

My son did well working with an Ortan Gillingham tutor. Most likely there is someone in Greensboro that has that training.

My dd enjoyed Miss Fannie's Hat by Jan Karon. We also liked the Chicken Soup for Little Souls books. Some of the titles are "The Never Forgotten Doll," "Best Night Out with Dad," and "Della Birthday Girl."
I read the books "The Princess and the Kiss" and "The Squire and the Scroll" as well.

My boys have retained the history sentences and science questions and answers well. We didn't emphasize the latin, math, and timeline memory work as much. This year we will try to master the timeline. We enjoyed our group and it was good for us to have that outlet for fellowship.
As far as prep time, I'm not sure. I was an Essentials Tutor last year and tried to plan out 4 to 6 weeks in advance. My personality is to be a planner and organizer though.

I have two of the books and enjoy them. Two of the pictures from one book were in our state art museum. We were able to go see them in person and see how large the paintings were.

I will check the library and see what they might have. I hadn't even thought of checking there.

I just turned 40 and will have my 4th sometime in the next month. I took fertility pills to have my first child and just got pregnant with the next two. Doing nothing to prevent pregnancy there will be a little over seven years between my son and this new baby.
This pregnancy has been more difficult due to the gestational diabetes being harder to control. I have to go to the doctor twice a week for non-stress tests and bio-physical ultrasounds. My goal is to have a healthy baby so we are doing what it takes to get her here safely. I don't regret being pregnant and look forward to holding this little one.

This will be my first year directing. Last year I tutored Essentials. We live in a very rural area so we won't have a large group. Since I'm having a baby soon that is okay with me. I hope you have a great year!

Is Brain Gym similar to Dianne Craft's book "Brain Integration Therapy Manuel?" There isn't a Brain Gym tutor close to where I live.

If you find the cheap Gerber plastic pants let me know. I found some at WalMart and Kmart but the smallest size was 12 -18 months. That won't work with my newborn so I ordered the covers.
Thanks,

I ordered recently from Nicki's. Shipping was free. I can't remember if it was because I ordered a certain amount or just there policy.

I ordered diaper, covers, and pail from there. It's been 7 years since I've had a baby so was starting over with those things. I had a diaper service with the other children so it will be different having to wash my own diapers. I'm sure it will be fine though.

Someone once told me they used the work-serve-learn pattern when kids complained of being bored. The example was given was: do a chore, write a letter to a shut in/grandparent, learn to type, sew, etc.
Also, I printed off a list of 200 ideas for summertime. Here are a few of the suggestions: skate, shoot basketball, play a board game, jump rope, make homemade play dough, press fowers, write a letter, vacuum, draw, color, pull weeds, collect rocks, nature walk, play dress up, build a fort in your room or outside.

I bought one at Michaels today that is 17" X 23". I hope it will work okay. It was $16.99. We are doing level 1 of AAS.

Another vote for Arm and Hamour Free and Clear. That is what my son's allergist suggested. I bought my cloth diapers for the next baby from Nicki' s and they suggest A & H Free and Clear as well.

Here are some thing I've done to help my son that has trouble writing due to fine and gross motor skill problems.
I let him dictate to me and I write.
I use a dry erase board. I put pages of math fact drills in page protectors and let him use the dry erase marker.
I've set the timer for 15 minutes, let him take a break to do jumping jacks, and then start another 15 minutes.
Ds's problems are motor related, not academically related so the above may not even help.

I think I'd have to cut off all but necessary contact. If you want to give gifts to them, I'd mail them. As far as your grandmother, does she realize your parents have issues? My grandparents always knew how my dad was so I was never put in the middle.

There is a mineral musuem that is free in Spruce Pine, not too far from Burnsville. If you like theatre the Parkway Playhouse is in Burnsville. The website is www.parkwayplayhouse.com. At some point this summer they are doing The Sound of Music. Roan Mountain State Park in Roan Mountain, TN is also nice with hiking trails and pool.

I think they have a child with cancer. I haven't kept up with all that was going on in quite a while. They were at a conference I attended a few years ago. Maybe that is the problem.
