2 things work for us. I add 15 minutes per subject per day. The kids haven't even noticed. Second, I use audiobooks and curriculum on cd (like sotw and songschool Spanish) in the car.

I went through this with my dd for 2 years. The cure was to change to all Gifted and honors curriculum ala MCT. She likes the challenge.

Yes! WIth the Kingfisher encyclopedia, grade level appropriate literature, mapwork and outlining, and a special emphasis on American History for vol 3 and 4. I also add in Hakims story of US and lots of documentaries to bring it to the older level. My kids would revolt if they had to give up the sotw audiobooks. We listen to them over and over in the car.

We use wwe and spelling power with MCT. I have even used the workbooks and techniques of spelling power with the MCT vocab lists.

I am with a CA isp umbrella and I have ALWAYS used Singapore math. IT is the preferred program at our charter, lol. I would request a new CT. I actually love the teacher's manual that the schools get more than the HIG but the HIG is great as well. I loathe Houghton Mifflin. My school district loves it. If I wanted to do what the school district wanted I would send my kids to the neighborhood school. Be strong and tell her you are happy with your choices. Singapore math is amazing!!! All that mental math will be a perfect fit for the new common core.

I think the shining star of MCT is the vocabulary. Caesar's English is not to be missed imo. The grammar practices are also wonderful. I have switched our writing program from AAW to WWS but will go back to AAW in a few years.

A live in housekeeper!!! LOL. For real, though, a top notch science program. I wish Ellen Mchenry covered more science subjects. She explains things in such a beautiful way.

Hits: Miquon, FLL (I had no idea my boys would love memorizing poetry so much!). Anything with coloring pages i.e. SOTW, TGS, SSL.
Misses: MEP, 2 days in and they mutinied.
Right? My autistic 8 year old LOVES memorizing the poems and really likes FLL. Who knew?

No no no no no on the "feeling bad about himself" thing. WHat is there to feel bad about? My dd8 knows full well she is autistic and she has the HIGHEST self esteem of anyone I have ever met. It is a relief to know the in's and out's of high functioning autism (aspergers) as one who has it so that they know the good things and the challenges that go along with it. It was a relief to her to know why she wasn't able to deal with sensory issues the way others do. Honestly, I would not say anything and maybe do a little research. Autism isn't a life sentence. Don't look at it as such.

You can, but it would be a shame! I say do 1 by listening to the audio. I could listen to Jim Weiss over and over. The activity guide is a MUST for vol 1! Super fun. I also loved volume 2, but I think one of the beautiful things about SOTW is learning history chronologically. Makes so much sense!

There are so many opportunities for socialization apart from school. Library story times, swim lessons, Suzuki violin, play groups, art classes, peewee sport teams, park and rec classes (ours has a lego engineering class!), etc. If you want to get more socialization you absolutely don't need to send your kiddo to school. If you want one less kid a few hours a day to focus on the other two that is a different thing and even understandable. I think you just need to figure out what you ultimately are looking for.
I agree that this is prime learning to read time.

We use pe objects IE a giant exercise ball. We pass the ball back and forth skip counting a number to see who can get the highest number. we also jump rope doing the same thing. Any math game that uses math we use as well. More fun learning the facts. Yahtzee, uno, math war, rolling die and adding or multiplying etc.

Compare STEM to non STEM job salaries with you son. Worked like a charm for my kids.

I don't know any. I live in a very VERY relaxed community so most people are more unschooly. I know that some people around have to be doing SOME classical work with their kids because I find SWB and other classical textbook authors here and there amongst the curriculum in our charter's library.

I love them both. The wwe is a gentle intro to writing correctly and wws is rigorous and thorough.

I voted yes. We sell through amazon occasionally and we always pay for insurance on our end. It is part of shipping and handling imo. You should be the one to fight with the post office.

we live in the pacific northwest where it rains a good chunk of the school year. We have to get creative, lol. We use a mini trampouline, do kid workout videos, just dance on the wii, go to the gym for family time in the pool.
