  1. We've adopted a stray---or rather a stray has adopted us. Let me be upfront and say while this is a cute cuddly dog, I already have 2 dogs and am really not wanting a 3rd. Our local shelter is full to the max and our city animal shelter is not a no-kill shelter and they too are full. We've done all the lost dog routine and he's been with us almost 2 months. If there were a humane way to pass this dog on to a diff owner, I would do it ASAP

He is a young dog prob over 6 months and under a year. He looks like one of our bichons did at his age but has a stubby tail and is much more prone to the "chase" Maybe some terrier?

Anyway, my immed problem is that he has started growling and becoming possessive at times. Once was when he was lying next to me and my dtr tried to pick him up. Another time was when the dog was aleep, my dh woke him up to take him to his crate.

He growls and acts like he might bite. He hasn't yet. If he does ,he will be off to the shelter and will have to take his chances. I can't keep a dog that bites.

What can I do to help him stop the aggressive behavior?

  2. --I'm not sure I've ever had a post that generated this many replies. :)

I do want to support her in her dietary choices. I respect that she is of an age to make decisions about what she chooses to eat. She has been researching vegan recipes, and we've tried a few with mixed results. She is willing to cook foods that she thinks she can handle.

Problem is she's at school(1st time ever) from 9a-4p and I've returned to work full time. I'm a nurse, so often don't get home until 8-9pm on the days I work. She's a dancer and often doesn't get home until 8-9 in the evening 3xwkly.

So, I don't have the time to invest as I did when both my dtrs went vegetarian a few years ago. Then, we had a problem that one of the previous poster mentioned--they ere more carb-terians than vegetarians.

They both chose to stop being vegetarians.

Thank you all for websites, suggestions, etc. I'm leaving to go get her now but will come back and reread menus and check out websites and check library for books.

    Thanks again

  4. Great posts, great info.

I am def changing my eating habits--hello, spinach--and am taking vitamins.

It's helpful to hear from others.

The eye dr I saw was "you have it, there's nothing you can do for it, and btw, you pay as you go out" Talk about disheartening.

I have an appointment with a specialist next wk.

    Thanks again

  5. was a show on moms with multiples. One lady had 3 healthy beautiful triplets but had been pregnant with quads. Her dr had recommended selective reduction in order for the other 3 to live.

She saw moms with quads that were healthy and well while on the show.

She was in tears and grieving as she told Oprah about the choice they made. All she could think about was that lost child.

It was years ago but that image has never left my mind.

  6. Since my dds turned into teenagers, my dh and I have done a scavenger hunt for a final present. We like it because they're older and don't get as many gifts so it's a fun way to end up the Christmas tree time.

The prize is always an activity type gift that we play after they find it. One year it was Rock Band, another year Deluxe Scrabble, etc

I'm stumped this year. I am looking for suggestions for a fun activity gift for 3 girls-ages 14,15, and 17- and a boy aged 14.

Rescue me, Hive! please, please, please!

  7. In addition to homeschooling my kids, I am also a RN. I have taken care of a young boy on a ventilator at his home for about 6 months. He died Friday night. His death was not unexpected but it was still very very painful .

This is a very devout Muslim family, and I want to respect their traditions. But I'd also like to let them know of the love I have for their little boy, and my sympathies.

I'd appreciate anyone that could share info with me.
