  1. I am getting a bit overwhelmed with my Excel Planning Sheets. I need to do LOTS of tweaking to get everything in the right place. I was just wondering how many use Homeschool Tracker and if you use the free download or the Homeschool Tracker Plus?

It looks a little complicated to me, is it easy to use once I get all my info. put in?

Which one do you recommend, Homeschool Tracker or Homeschool Tracker Plus?

I would appreciate any input from those using these programs.

    Thanks so much!

  2. their coloring books. Also, I really like their grammer and the Bible Reader & Nurture Series. The Readers in 2nd grade start at the beginning of the Bible and it keeps going through the next years (that's my understanding anyway). I just have 2nd grade. I also like their Geography for 2nd grade "Our Father's World", it's a nice gentle approach. If you are not a christian some of this would be highly objectionable. I don't like their math but a lot of people do.

  3. I would continue with what your older children are used to. I use SWR and I really like it but I don't do everything suggested but I like the cards and the words and the fingerspellings. I would really recommend trying to get to a training/seminar, I felt like I couldn't do it and then I went to a training and it made sense after that.

  4. Last year I did pretty good getting the subjects on separate Excel sheets but I thought , I'll just get the first 18 weeks planned out in case we get off track. BAD IDEA!! Once my lesson plans were over I kind of fizzled out too. It took me about 8 weeks to get back to where we were doing what we should have been doing. What a waste of time. For next school year I am working on a full year on Excel with all subjects listed on one page. One page per week. I am really excited about it! If we do get behind because of a sick day or what have you, I'm going to try to make it up on Saturday.

I love the accountablity that a schedule gives me. I actually have something to look at telling me what needs to be done. IT's great!

    Good Luck!

  5. I am in the throws of planning my dd's 2nd grade year. I have 9 weeks down, only 27 left! Anyway, there are so many options out there and it takes awhile to find out what fits for you, your child and your family. I will just tell you what we are going to do for 2nd grade.

Bible: BJU Bible Truths 2nd grade, I'm loving this, but we'll just have to see how it goes.

Reading: Rod & Staff, Bible, Reader & Nurture Series, plus Veritas Press Literature guides w/ the books. (Milly,Molly, Mandy Storybook, Little House in the Big Woods, Little House in the Praire, Box Car Children, etc.)

Grammer: I used FLL 1&2 but we are almost done so I am switching to Rod & Staff Grade 2 English

Spelling: Spell to Read and Write using the Rod & Staff Grade 2 Spelling lists.

Math: We are in Saxon 2 and will continue with that along with Singapore Challenging Word problems and move on to Saxon 3 when finished.

    History: SOTW-Ancients

Science: Scott, Foreman Discover Science, not thrilled here.

Electives:One day a week on each subject, Geography- Our Father's World (R&S), Health-Proper Manners & Health Habits (R&S), Latin-Prima Latina, Typing-Typing Instructor for Kids, Art- Art with a Purpose (R&S)

Music: Piano practice every day and a lesson once a week.

Hopefully, this gives you some idea, there are so many great curriculums to choose from. Have fun finding what will work for you!

  6. My dd(7) loves reading the pathway readers because it is a continuing story and she really got to 'know' the characters and she wants to know more about them.

Also, I made the mistake of going to the library and picking out books for her, now I take her and let her pick out the books she likes (with my approval!). My dd really judges a book by it's cover and so this helps.

One more thing, try to keep her reading every day. When I was young (8) I disliked reading but my sister dared me to read a series of books, it forced me to read every day(to prove her wrong!) it was the best thing for me! Now I am an avid reader, thanks to my sister!

  7. My ds (10) uses everything but the flashcards. He enjoys everything about Prima Latina. I've been thinking that I will have the 2 of us make our own flash cards with all the vocab. words....it would be fun.

Thank you for your reply Margarete! What a great idea about making our own flashcards!

  8. For those of you using Prima Latina or have used it, do I need the flashcards and Audio CD if I am planning on using the DVD? I'm hoping the DVD covers what's on the CD but I just don't know.

    Thanks in advance,

    fw

I edited it because of my poor grammer, I'm so glad I'm learning right along with my dd.:001_smile:
