  1. hello, i am really struggling with which curriculum to pick for my children and was hoping to get some good feedback. let me 1st tell you about us & our "challenges"... i have 2 boys--both have been in public school (this will be my 1st year to HS). they "should" be in 2nd & 1st grades, however, my older son is autistic & has fallen behind & so they will both be doing 1st grade this year. i want school to be about successes & not failures (which is what was happening in public school) i don't believe either of my children will like really structured & strict learning (text books and workbook work), but would rather enjoy hands-on or computer-based/dvd programs. in the past, my children have never allowed me to be "teacher" and to make it worse, i am a horrible teacher (i know something bc i know it, but can't really explain it to you). we don't have thousands of dollars to pour into a curriculum that "might" work the kids can read, but really need to be taught a lot of the "basics" so they can be successful readers they struggle with math concepts (time, money, addition facts, etc) i do not know how to set up a lesson plan &/or schedule (not that it has to be followed "perfectly", but used as a guideline) my health & my older son's health is up and down--surgeries, etc...so i need to be able to pick up and go & take school easily with us i really appreciate u taking the time to read this and appreciate your help. blessings, candace p.s. the things we have "practiced" with this summer are time4learning.com & a little bit of my father's world. t4l keeps the boys attention, but they struggle with being able to read the instructions as well as understand the math concepts. i love the way mfw is set up, but am not sure if it will address all the needs of the boys (math, reading, etc)
  2. hello, i am new to this forum and new to homeschooling. i am really struggling weeding through all the posts as well as all the internet sites for online and/or dvd curriculum. i need help narrowing things down. i will list the "considerations" i have in regard to homeschooling below. thank you in advance for your help. i have 2 boys that will be in 2nd & 1st grades this year. they have never allowed me to be teacher so this is why i am looking into online/dvd curriculum (where i am here for guidance, but not teaching) the 2nd grader has some developmental delays so i am not looking for "excelled" programs. things good for autistic & sensory children would be great. we want to be able to pick up & travel (u.s. only)--so this is important to us we would prefer something christian-based, but it is not required we don't have a very big budget (ex: we found a great program online, but it's 5k/kid cost is WAY out of our league) i need something "easy"--i don't mean this to say we are lazy, what i mean is that what we have experienced so far with schooling is that my older child constantly feels like a failure bc he doesn't think like other kids--i want school to be more about successes rather than failures--hope this makes sense again, i really appreciate your time. blessings, candace
