  1. ds8 has been gluten-free for 4 months.  I drastically changed his diet at that time to test for sensitivities due to some very bad behavior issues.

He went gluten-free and food dye free at the same time.  I know for a fact that food dyes cause horrible behavior in him (he has accidentally ingested food dyes 4 times in the last 4 months and each time it caused 1 week of bad behavior).

I'm not sure if the gluten is also an issue since I stopped at the same time as the food dye.  I would like to try him on gluten again to find out, but am not quite sure how to go about it or if I should expect it to cause stomach aches or anything like that.

If you have any experience with this please let me know!

  2. If it has been that many years since you've bought jeans, I would guess that a big chunk of the problem is that jeans are cut differently than they used to be. You are comparing modern jeans to old jeans. Your body may well have changed, but so have jeans. That doesn't help you find jeans you like, but I find it is easier to blame problems on clothing manufacturers than on my butt.

Yes! I am at a very normal weight for my height, but the pants they make today don't fit me at all and it's the most frustrating experience. After the big dress thread over the summer I started wearing dresses and skirts and I am loving it! So easy and comfortable and I have zero desire to go on a search for pants this fall/winter. So I bought some cute and comfy boots to wear with with them. I do have my last year's jeans I can wear, but don't think I'll be trying for new this year.

  3. Yes! This year. I had some horrible anxiety the past spring/early summer. I decided to quit the charter school we've been a part of for 8 years. All the testing, work samples, pressures galore were weighing me down. Now I'm filing on my own and feel so free!

Also I'm just overall more relaxed this year with our schooling. Basically slowing down and not feeling guilty. We just had our annual pumpkin-carving party and instead of schooling all day and being completely rushed and stressed trying to get ready, we took the day off to prepare. Such a better way to live. This is the year I focus on the things that caused my anxiety and bringing peace back to the home.

  4. I am by no means an expert and I hope others chime in, but I do have some experience with EFT.  I heard about it here as well as I was searching threads about anxiety earlier this summer.  I went through some horrible anxiety (hadn't ever dealt with it before) and am now so thankful that I found tapping.

I watched one quick video online then read The Tapping Solution.  The author does talk a lot about getting to the root of the problem for best results, but I don't think it's necessary.  If you don't know the root you can't tap on it, but you can tap on your feelings and emotions.

I've really only tapped on my anxiety and although I am now out of the worst of it, occasionally some anxious feelings will pop up.  Tapping is now like my Xanax... It really does help!  It also helps for me to go back and read through sections of the book.  I find myself nodding my head over and over.

I have also used tapping with ds8 who has been having anxiety issues of his own and it's been like a miracle for him!

Hope that helps.  Have to get back to school...

  5. In the last year I have experienced anxiety/panic attacks, ds8 has shown symptoms of anxiety/ OCD, and ds13's headaches have become more frequent...daily. In looking for natural helps for ds8 I have discovered that magnesium may help us all!

Thanks to this forum I started us all on Natural Vitality's Natural Calm. I will be so thrilled if we see positive changes because of this. Here's hoping!

  6. I had to post an update because I'm amazed!  I bought Epsom salt yesterday to try with ds8 and he did seem to fall asleep easier.  I'm going to use it with him a few nights a week.

I also thought I'd try a foot bath for myself before bed, and wow!  First of all I became very relaxed and sleepy.  I do also take timed Melatonin, but this was even better.  When I did settle down into bed I noticed that my feet and legs weren't aching!  I don't know how long they have ached in bed, but it's been a while and I never really thought about it much.  But it is very annoying and I always try to stretch them and move them around and it's hard to settle down.  Last night I had no problems with that!  I almost couldn't believe how nice my feet/legs felt.  And if that wasn't miraculous enough, I only woke once in the night to use the bathroom.  This is from someone who for years has been waking up 2, usually 3 times every night.  I can't remember a time when I only woke once.

So this will definitely be a nightly ritual for me.

  7. We use them with the kids all the time, especially when they seem particularly "amped up" for whatever reason (frustration with a brother, grumpy mood, overly stressed/overwhelmed about something). Sometimes we put a drop or two of lavender oil in there too to make it feel that much more special. ;) They also like the Natural Calm magnesium (we just buy the regular formula as dh and I like it too).

How long has he been on the Feingold diet? Sometimes some behaviors can be worse before they get better. I know when we started (and when we've messed up accidentally either with Feingold or gluten/dairy), it can take a month, at least, to really feel they are detoxed. But, the removal of the additives through Feingold might be uncovering something else that is food-related. I know there are a couple of us that are very sensitive to dairy; it causes anxiety issues (my youngest son is especially susceptible to this - talk about separation anxiety as a little guy). Gluten, also, is a culprit here for anxiety type feelings. So, you may be slowly peeling the layers of an onion with Feingold being the first layer (we did Feingold first, then added gluten free, and finally went dairy free). Just random, albeit unsolicited, thoughts. :)

He's been off gluten for 7 weeks and it did get horribly worse for the first few days.  He's also been off food dyes and processed foods for that long.  Twice during that time he's ingested food dyes and had bad behavior for 5-7 days.  So I know he's sensitive to them.  I've only been doing Feingold for 3-4 days so I've cut out salicylates and food dyes in personal care products.  I'm hoping Feingold will really help me narrow down the foods that affect him whereas before I didn't have a systematic plan.  The difference in his behavior is like night and day.

  8. I know nothing about epsom salt baths except what I've read on here about epsom baths for relaxing/anxiety I think. I'm trying to fine natural ways to help ds8 with anxiety/OCD. Can epsom salt baths be used for children? Is it safe to use everyday? Is this something that would be helpful for a child dealing with anxiety/OCD?

I've recently drastically changed his diet (Feingold) because his behavior had been so out of control (agression, rudeness, impulsiveness, constant arguing, excess energy) and the OCD/anxiety symptoms cropped up around the same time. The diet is helping his behaviour tremendously and I'm hoping this will eventuall help with the anxiety/OCD, but in the meantime I would love some natural ways to help him.

  9. You avoid salicylates on the Feingold diet. I highly recommend this diet if you think your child has food sensitivities that are causing inattention or behavior problems.

I have seen miraculous results in ds8 after reading and implementing dietary changes from The N.D.D Book by Sears and also Cure Your Child with Food. But I'm thinking Feingold could help even more. Is the $69 PDF package all I need to purchase? Maybe I should start another thread...
