  1. Thanks so much for your input. I really appreciate that you took valuable time to respond. Blessing!:grouphug:
  2. I have a friend who has recently discovered Math Mammoth, and it has really helped her math-challenged kiddo. Her ds is not special needs, though. Has anyone had any experience with this program and could offer insight? I'm presently using MUS, but my ds (age 8) is still not quite getting the basic concepts. From what I understand, MM uses lots of drill done in different ways to drive a point home. Would appreciate your input.
  3. Do you know if this is a curriculum in and of itself, or could it be used in tandem with something like MUS as more of a tutoring program? My dh explored the website, but we couldn't get as clear an answer as we would like. I don't want to overwhelm ds, but I want to do all I can to help him connect the dots and enjoy math and feel successful.
  4. Thanks so much for all your input!! It was very helpful.
  5. Has anyone used Moving With Math for their special needs child?
  6. I'm new to Homeschooling and curriculum searching. I've been trying to find the meaning of the above acronyms and am having a hard time. Could you spell them out for me? I would appreciate it so much. Thanks!
  7. CSMP math: lots of higher level stuff, but very little writing. Last week, we worked on multiplying fractions, and it is only a 1st grade curriculum! BFSU science: Very meaty stuff, but designed for this age range. So the activities are geared toward children that have limited writing skills and attention spans. If you need more challenge, you can beef it up with the optional writing and reading assignments. It is teacher intensive, but that lets you have control over how challenging to make it. FIAR: We did this at 4.5yo, and it was wonderful. I added challenge by doing a vocabulary study with each book. It could work for a 5.5yo accellerated child, but you may end up having to do more prep work to make sure you have enough material. And there will be times that you will just have to skip a day, because there is not enough material there. (For example, there is often only one math lesson, and it is usually about counting. Those days, I either doubled up on the other topics or skipped the day altogether.) We started TOG at 5.5yo, and it has been a wonderful investment for my accellerated, history-loving dd.
  8. I have heard a lot about Math U See and it's use with special needs children. Through this site, I have now heard about Semple Math, but I can't find a lot of reviews on it. My 7-year-old son has mild CP with, as yet, undiagnosed behavioral/attention issues. I started him out with Rod and Staff math as it seemed heavy on review and slow on adding new content with the thought that he would memorize math facts and have plenty of practice, but he is unable to "connect the dots" as to why he's doing what he's doing, and so we have made no progress. He is great at reading, but Math is a huge stress for him. I would value your input as to what you like/don't like about the programs mentioned. I am also open to other suggestions if you have found something that really worked for your "math-challenged" little one! Thanks!
