I picked up three Orthodox books at a book sale this weekend: The Way of a Pilgrim, The Diary of a Russian Priest -- Alexander Elchainov, and The Orthodox Way -- Bishop Kallistos Ware. Now I'm staring at them, wondering which I should read first. :) Suggestions? Is there one that you think is more foundational?
Thanks!

My priest, Fr. John, is ill. I don't know the specifics, but I just got an email saying various Holy Week services will be canceled. I have also noticed him seeming more fatigued recently.
He is a wonderful man and has been such a blessing to me. Your prayers would be appreciated. :001_smile:

I don't know, but I just wanted to say "Thank you" for mentioning the Circe thread. I'm on a Lenten board break (minus social groups), but after seeing the thread mentioned I had a look. I'm pretty sure its okay to stop my break for this thread, it is such a blessing. :)

I think she could be usable, but not something I would give to my child for independent work.
:iagree:I generally like them, as do my kids, but they need discussion and supplementation. On second thought, I read them several years ago, and have been growing steadily more conservative since then, so my opinion may have changed.

You're not making it easier! Hmmm...perhaps I'll start with The Orthodox Way.
Has anyone read Ponder These Things: Praying with Icons of the Virgin? I just remembered that I got it the other day as well. The author, Archbishop Rowan Williams, is Anglican, but Kallistos Ware wrote the foreword.
ETA: I didn't see Little Nyssa's response before. Thanks for the heads up about The Way of a Pilgrim;I'll start The Orthodox Way now.
