I just started HSing this month so I am still asking myself this very same question every single day. Some days are great and some days are so bad I cannot believe I actually WANT to do this  I spend moat of my time
trying to keep the three younger kids (4,3,1) happy while my oldest (8) is trying to stay focused and get through her work.
My biggest issue is the dishes, but they are usually washed twice a day. Laundry is done every day and now (thanks to the minimalist thread) it is actually folded and put away as soon as it is dry. I have shelves and a drawer for each kid and the clothes are folded and stored neatly in the laundry room.
I will admit that I do not do any deep cleaning and have someone come once a month for that, but I make sure the house is clean and try to keep stuff picked up. That isnt too hard now that I donated 80% of the toys.
As for "me" time, I crash around 10pm and lay in bed on my phone or laptop (like now) until midnight or so. I also have a drop-in daycare that I use when I am desperate or DH and I need a date night.
DH is a HUGE help when he is home, which gives me a chance to do
the projects piling up on my plate.
I am fairly antisocial, but I interact with our girl scouts and
I go to church and enjoy being around other people then.
Sorry... this became long:tongue_smilie:

I was taught 2 spaces. Didn't know that had been revised. Don't know if I could change that after 27 years of doing it this way.:)
:iagree: But for me it's after 20 years :)

So far I plan one week at a time and I write it all out in a lesson planner in pencil because I am learning quickly that we wont always stick to my "plan.". I also have workboxes and those I get ready the night before to make sure everything is set. I have found if I try to wing in, I am very frantic and frustrated trying to make those decisions quickly but if I have a guideline, all is well in our world :)
ETA: I plan to follow a six week on, one week off, schedule that someone else on this board mentioned before. KK was in year-round ps and we really enjoyed that, so that is why we will go with this plan.

Why did you start HSing?
I started because my oldest was having a hard time socially in ps and because I wanted the freedom to let her move at her own pace. I felt she was being held back and she was!
When you started, how long did you plan on HSing and has that changed?
I just started this month. I plan to HS as long as my kids will let me :)
What is your favorite thing about HSing?
Freedom!!! :)
What is the hardest part of HSing?
Trying to figure out the best schedule with two little ones running around all the time!

My oldest is 8 and is not "mathy" either. She doesnt hate math, but she would much rather be reading. She is flying through the books and actually getting more excited about doing math. So, we really enjoy SM :)

It makes a world of difference in MY attitide if I get up and actually have a shower and put on clothes, but 90% of the time I jump up to arguing kids, pull my hair up, and before I know it the day is over and I am still in my PJs.
My kids are almost always in PJs and if I make them put clothes on, they get excited because it must mean we are going somewhere to get out of the van. I am very guilty of loading them up in PJs and hitting a drive-thru for lunch! :tongue_smilie:

We dont. Ive asked KK several times if she is interested in trying anything. She finally mentioned piano lessons but we just dont have the $ right now.

We have used some of these as well and I really liked them :)

That is so exciting! I am holding out a few more days for Level A
used before I buy it new... but I cant wait to get it!! I wish I could look at it somewhere before I buy it though.

For dinner, I use e-mealz [dot] com and for the other meals, I usually just do sandwiches and oatmeal and cereal and fruit and stuff. I try to keep it as simple as possible.

I have nothing to add but N and M are 15 months apart as are M and D. I am hoping to combine them in some things if I ever get a handle on things :)
So, I am enjoying reading the responses for ideas later.

I just started and am still planning this year... I am guessing I will play it by ear and see how everything goes! :)

Oh my... a microwave, fruit basket, coffee maker, nose tissue, two water bottles, and since it is breakfast time cereal, three bowls and spoons, vitamins, two sippy cups, and two glasses of juice.
It doesnt matter how many times I clean off my counters. They seem to be the catch-all for everyone including my 20 month old who throws her stuff to the top!
eta: backpack full of girl scout cookie stuff and packages for the post office.

You guys are so inspirational! After the minimalists thread, I started tearing through the house getting rid of stuff and reorganizing. We just moved and are still unpacking. My big organizing project right now is my school room and office! It is taking a while trying to be creative due to lack of funds:001_huh:

Blogs are your bestfriend when it comes to this.
I got from 1+1+1=1, Confessions of a Homeschool and MamaJen all my labels that I printed, laminated and velcro attached.
They include different break times. Help and Mom ones as well as other activities.
This is exactly where I got mine from, too :D.

I use them but Im a newbie and need as much direction as I can get :D.

Thank you! :)

Strider, I wanted to thank you for the link to the Explorer Bible Studies. It is exactly what I have been looking for and just ordered one of the studies. I have become increasingly disillusioned with our current Bible program and am glad to replace it with this one.:001_smile:
:iagree:

Im sorry to ask this but I want to be sure I understand what I need before ordering. We are using MCT Island level and I really want to try BWJ for KK. What I am confused about is the Arrow. Do I need to use that in addition to MCT? I feel like it would be good to use, but I dont want to have LA overkill.
Thanks for your help :)

Thanks so much everyone! I REALLY appreciate everyone's responses and the welcome :) I am going to hold off on any formal teaching with N for a little bit and just let him be 4, but will continue to read aloud to him... and I will sell the BJU Reading 3 that I have and use the plot diagram idea to make sure KK really understands what she reads :)
I found this list of ideas for activities for little ones while you homeschool:http://mothersruleoflife.com/free/ActivitiesforLittleones.pdf
I like having her long list, it makes me feel like I have options if one thing does not work = less frustration.:001_smile:
I printed this list.. THANK YOU! Great ideas!

There's disobedience and then there's childish bad judgement. This is childish bad judgement. At our house (and we're pretty strict on a 1-10) that would have been childish bad judgement. Punishment is meant to bring about sorrow and repentance. Sounds like you already have that. It would have earned him a talking to and maybe helping me write a card of apology to the firemen. ;)
:iagree:
Do you buy your curriculum used or new?
in K-8 Curriculum Board
Posted
I usually buy new, but recently purchased a few things here on the SS board and have had great results. I also have a local HS store that sells new and used that I have bought used from. I hae bought a couple of things through another website, but havent gotten them yet so I hope I dont get burned.
I have been mainly ordering from christianbooks or amazon though.
