History Odyssey is my vote.

Or you could use the whiteboard to write the phonograms. We have the cards, but I don't find them necessary.
If you are doing LOE with advanced spelling lists, all you need is the teacher manual. If you are working through it as written, student workbook is a nice one to have. We also own spelling journals but haven't used them even once.
Do you have a link to the advanced spelling lists? I could not find them on the website.
Also if we are planning on using everything in the program (composition, grammar, etc.) except replacing the spelling lists with the advanced lists, what makes the workbook unnecessary? Thanks so much!

Some years are just tough! But I will echo looking into D3. That made a HUGE difference to break the cycle for us when we were having more illness than usual. We have also found essential oils blends to work really well for keeping germs at bay here this year. One person would get a bug and no one else would.

SWB's audio on literature is really good.

Just take it one lesson at a time. Look at the Textbook and then read through the HIG for that chapter. It may not be as intimidating. Did you also get the student workbook?

We can get a State ID at our motor vehicle's office.

I also had 3 years of French in high school and I can't believe how good my dd's French is. She's in French 3 and has such a good understanding of all the tenses. I'm not sure I was that good! I'm astounded (and thrilled!) that an online class in foreign language can teach so much!
Amy is who we had, too. I didn't even know she and her husband had someone else working with them. She is really nice, but the class is tough in both material and expectations. It was fabulous! I wish your dd luck!
Thank you. I'm really concerned about the work load of the class, but I suspect she may step up to the challenge.

My son has Amy Barr for Latin, Regan Barr for Greek, and he's done a short course on Greek Vase Painting with Sue Fisher, who teaches the other Latin classes. All three of them are excellent teachers, and the classes are extremely well organized and well run. They are rigorous and intense, but also really enjoyable. DS has done many of Lukeion's 4-wk workshops, as well as the one semester grammar course (HIGHLY recommended!), and he audited Mythology A. We have been extremely pleased with all of the Lukeion courses, and DD10 can't wait to start next year.

Thanks. I signed up dd16 today for Latin 1a and Amy Barr is scheduled to be the teacher. Glad to hear they are all good.

On the Lukeion Latin, which teacher did your students have?

Our VideoText material had a solutions manual. What module and problems don't have solutions worked out?

Rice can be another culprit.

My dh does give me feedback. But I also have had to work really hard at not trying to live up to the ideals I THINK he is expecting. If he has an issue with something, he will bring it up. If he doesn't, I just have to rest in the fact that I am doing my best and he has no issue with what is occurring. I am a mess when I try mindreading and live based on what I think is being expected.

I just have history books be used as reading practice in 1st grade. Now starting in 3rd grade, highly recommend Trail Guide to Learning!

CLE Reading and LA are different programs although we have never used the beginning levels to know if they overlap more. You might be able to tell more from the Light Unit samples on the clp.org site.

I'm looking at this sample right now. If you download the "try before you buy" sample and then the sample from the teacher's edition, it's a decent sized preview. I'm looking at using it with a 10th grader. I'd like to add chapters from Tindall's American Narrative. The older editions are reasonably priced.
I'm not sure what I will do yet, but for my average student I believe HO and Tindall readings will be enough.
Thanks. I definitely think Level 2 can be plenty for high school if you make sure the writing assignments are deep enough. I could see additional history reading being good to beef it up. I like Level 3 too but they don't have Modern and this dd wouldn't be ready for it anyway. (I did a review on Level 3 Middle Ages and it is a lot of work.) HO is definitely in the running for next year.
-
I do need to take a look at History Odyssey and see if their Modern level has enough for both.
-
Thanks for the bump. Simply Charlotte Mason does both and we will use the next volume if needed. I was just wanting to see if there were any others out there.
-
What programs cover both World and American History together? Specifically looking one that would be 1/2 credit in the second half of American and 1/2 credit in the second half of World History.

This is great information. Thank you. Just what I needed to know.

You might check Uplifting Education.

We've been pretty pleased with the Spanish 1 class through veritas press. The class meets online twice a week for 90 minutes each time. Ds's teacher is a native speaker who lives in Mexico City. I already signed ds up to take Spanish 2 this fall.
So you pay the course fee ($575) and then have to also buy the kit for apx $70?

I looked at the WWE 4 sample and although I like the skills it is teaching, I can see the assignments going over like a lead balloon. I will print out the WWS samples and look them over in more detail to see if I think she is ready.
-
Depends on the kid.
We went through WWE 3 and then the text for WWE 4 and we're using WWS in 5th grade at a slow pace.
Does your student excel or struggle with writing?
-
Could Writing With Skill be started in 4th grade and done half speed or would it be too advanced?
