  1. I was hoping to get some input from the awesome experience on this forum, but perhaps I am too late to consider a more classical approach?
  2. My first post, though I have read 100's of great ones. My quandry: Started HS'ing 4 years ago when dd#1 6th, dd#2 4th & dd#3 3rd because of huge gaps in math and science knowledge, (and I was finally brave enough to jump in) went with Sonlight. Loved it and it worked well for core 3, 4, 5 altogether. Math and Science skills have improved greatly. This year I have 6th grader finishing core 5, 7th grader in core 6 (1st 1/2 of WH), and 9th grader in Alt7- one-year WH (because I knew in my heart she needed this before US and Modern Hist). Much tougher on this old adoptive mom. My original plan was to stick with Sonlight thru the High School years. But.....NOW I'm concerned that we are not doing enough writing and critical thinking/lit analysis. Since dd#1 is doing World Hist. in 9th, I am feeling the "oh NO! So much to teach, so little time" DD#1 wants to use Notgrass US History for 10th grade. Thought that I would then go back to Sonlight for core 300 and 400 for 11th and 12th (adding lit analysis books and IEW). dd#2 would be Core 7 in 8th, then Notgrass, Core 200, 300 and 400. And pretty much the same for dd#3 with more time to spread it out. Now, in researching US History, I have read so much on MFW, that I am thoroughly second-guessing myself. DD#1 is an average student and wants more self-directed, textbook-y type curriculum. DD#2 is a voracious reader, yet loves to check-off the boxes and is a very independent learner. DD#3 at 11 (adopted at 3) is a sensory learner and I have yet to find her true "motivation-button". With economy in mind, would going with MFW for all three be a better plan? Sounds like it has the writing and lit analysis I find missing with Sonlight and will give them a very well-rounded classical view of history without overwhelming dd#1 and #3 with more books than they can finish......and would I then start dd#1 in Ancients or WHL? Would DD#2 balk at 2 years of sonlight WH followed by 2 more of MFW? Yikes! I'm making myself dizzy.. ANY feedback/experience greatly appreciated!
