  1. I think that it's dangerous to send a cat out WITH a collar. Cats climb all the time, and can literally hang themselves by their collars. I would never do that unless it was some kind of quick release collar.

The cat was yours, and it came home to you.

I don't like the idea of the skull and crossbones on the new collar. It sounds to me like the cat was pretty restrained and got away and came back to you as soon as it could. As tame as it was, the new 'owner' had to have known that it belonged to someone who might miss it.

Under those circumstances I would keep the cat. If I called the number on the tag, it would be to say that this is our cat, and that you just wanted to make sure that they got their collar back if they wanted it. (Nicely, though.)

    :iagree:

  2.

She was in tears over hearing that her Pillow Pet (which she's been asking for for months) was a "baby toy" according to her friend's 9 yo brother (and, sadly, her friend agreed).

The Pillow Pet was her favorite gift yesterday. And today she was sobbing (at home) begging me to return it to the store because of what those dippy kids said. She's okay now that DH comforted her and pointed that sometimes boys that age are dumb and say stupid things just be mean and get a reaction.

How screwed up is our culture that a 7 yo feels ashamed of playing with a stuffed animal?

A baby toy?? Tell her that my almost 18 year old dd wanted one for Christmas! She loves the penguin one. :)

  3. I don't know if you said how old this girl is or not. Are you sure it's bragging? Are you sure it's not just being excited about what she got for Christmas?

I think a lot of people on these boards are reading too much into children getting numerous or expensive gifts. I don't think anyone needs to be made to feel guilty because they splurged on this one day a year. Kids get excited and yes, maybe brag to their friends what about what they received. So what?
