  1. He may need to give it some more time but he found the first class to be "nothing special" and finds it annoying that so many kids during the class are asking questions and/or commenting in the chat about things that are not really necessary. Like I said, he may need to be patient but he didn't think a concept was explained that well and he was confused so he looked it up on Khan and understood it and thought it was taught much better. He's overwhelmed with the work right now because he has 3 weeks of make up work that Landry assigned to him to finish in 1 week in addition to this weeks' assignment. I hope things improve and we didn't waste our money.
  2. That is just terrible! I wish I had known before I paid for the class. We just pulled our son out of PS and . I had to make a decision fast as the class had already been in session for 3 weeks. It does not make me feel good supporting someone who did not make things right for families like yours :(. What did you end up using? I see that your son is at Penn State studying computer science? My son wants to study computer science in college as well. I'd love any advice you may have for me! I am praying that I am equipped to do this for him! Looks like I may have already made a mistake. So far, he is not even a "fan" of the class so that is also disappointing. He said he was hoping for something that would excite him more and be less like public school classes. Thank you for responding!
  3. I have a 9th grader who just started homeschooling. Does anyone have any experience or opinions to offer about the Life Prep Biology class taught online by Greg Landry? I am specifically talking about the class itself and not the money issues that some families experienced with him in the past. I am now doubting my decision 😟 I appreciate your time and advice! Debbie
  4. My son will be going to public school next year and I'm starting to worry that he will not be prepared in Math and will have too many "gaps." He had been doing Math U See all along until we switched to TT 6 last year. We decided after comparing TT 7 and TT pre algebra to go ahead and start pre-algebra this year which he is halfway through at this point. I'm wondering if switching to something like Your Teacher might be good for him or if I should use something else as a supplement to TT. I have heard many others whose kids are in middle school ps say to make sure he is in "advanced math". I should also mention that since he has a July birthday we are considering starting him as a 7th grader next year instead of 8th. I would appreciate any advice!!! A very worried mom :( Debbie
  5. I just had a full educational assessment done on my 13 year old son and he was "below average" in basic math facts. I'm looking at computer programs to help remediate this instead of using the basic flashcards or drill worksheets. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  6. My 13 year old son still has a hard time remembering his basic math facts. I need a program for extra practice and am wondering if Quarter mile math would be a good fit. Maybe I'm over thinking this and he should just do math facts worksheets but I like the idea of something tracking his progress and "challenging" him. I've also hear recently of Math Whizz and ALEKS quicktables. Any suggestions? Thanks so much! Debbie
  7. I have a 13 year old son who wants desperately to start public high school next year. Is it possible to do TT Pre Algebra and Algebra before then? Is there a better way to prepare him? Math is not his strength but I want him to feel confident. I have thought about swithching to the Pre Algebra text (Prentice Hall) that our county uses. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  8. My 13 year old son hates to read!!!! I'm trying to get some books that will really hold his interest and make him laugh. I feel like I have failed him because I have not "forced" him to read but I think the time has come. He has been a classic "Better Late Than Early" so far and I'm hoping that if I give him some good books he will see that reading can be fun. I would love any suggestions!!!!! Thanks! Debbie
  9. We have 11 mostly wooded acres and lots of ticks!!! I want to get some guineas but know nothing about what if anything I need for them. Does anybody have any experience with guinead? Several people told me they will roost in trees and I don't even need a coop. I would love any advice. Thanks! Debbie Dashfox@aol.com
  10. I remember that someone had done a schedule with CC History alligned with SOTW, MOH and even Netflix ideas. Does anyone else remember that or have that info? Thanks! Debbie dashfox@aol.com
  11. I have a 12 year old son who has not done much writing up to this point. We have used IEW in the past which I really like, however, he doesn't work so well with me as his teacher and writing is not my strength. I have thought about getting an IEW tutor but that still would require a lot on my part. Does anyone have experience with the Bravewriter online course or Time4writing to help with a boy who struggles to write? Thanks so much for any input!
  12. My 12 year old son is in TT7 and he is getting low % scores for many of the lessons. We were using MUS Epsilon but I switched because I needed him to be more "independent." I guess my quest for independence has backfired. Should I keep him in TT7 and redo all the lessons that he did not receive a 90 or higher? Should I start him in TT6 right now or should I go back to MUS Epsilon? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  13. I'm considering it for my "7th grader" and would love to hear from someone who has tried it. I'm comparing it to IEW and wonder if my son might like it better. Thanks! Debbie
  14. I just heard about the Writing Course and am interested in hearing what people have to say about it. I'm considering it for my 12 year old son who hates to write. I was kind of taking the "Better late than Early" philosophy with him and now I'm beginning to panic that he is not writing. I would love any suggestions. Thanks! Debbie :)
