  1. Thanks girls. I am adding Derwent colored pencils to my list. I have prismacolor pencils in my stash, but they have broke on me, as well. I ordered the prang watercolor and neocolor II watersoluble crayons. I have copic markers, bic markers, oil pastels, and good brushes. Anything else?

    Thanks

  2. I know my dd is only 4(5 in November), but she was spelling words as soon as I started to teach her to read. So this year in k4 we started spelling, but we are very relaxed about it. I have an Evan Moor 1st grade spelling book. We only use the spelling list.

What I do is give her the words at the beginning of the week, there are 5 words and I add a bonus word. Throughout the week, she spells the word with the magnetic letters, we unscramble the word to spell it, she writes the words out, we play a game of catch and when you miss, you need to spell one of your spelling words and use it in a sentence, and we test using her magnetic letters or writing them on the dry erase board.

I know this is working now, but I worry about not having a rule base curriculum. This is working for now, but would like suggestions for future spelling program or how I can incorporate the rules into my own spelling list.

She is young and I am unsure how to tell if she is a natural speller or not. What is a natural speller, anyways?

    Thanks

  3. Let me just say I love homeschooling. I like that I can be there for all my dd's milestones in schooling and in life. She really amazes me everyday. I hope to continue to do so for a very long time(I have a dh that is still on the fence, but I do see him leaning more my way).

My dd is an artist in training, so I am adding Artistic Pursuit and Drawing With Children, thanks to Angela (Satori). My dd is also a writer in training, So I am adding Wordly Wise K and Write Source K, again thanks to Angela. Seems like her blog is written just for my dd. If you ask my dd, she is going to be an Author and Illustrator someday.

  4. I do this daily, first thing in the morning. My dd is in k4. She tells me what day it is, the month, date and year. I may through in some questions while we are doing the calendar (like if today is Monday, then yesterday was____ or I will ask where is the 4th Friday of the month), things like that. Then I will ask how many days in a week and she recites the days in order. Then I do the same for the months. Then she tells me what season we are in. I ask how many seasons there are and she recites them in order. We do the weather. Then go over her full name address, phone number and her birthday (even though she knows them). I have color words and number words that we go over. Everything is hanging up on the wall. It really doesn't take long and she enjoys it. Sometimes we will do something fun like listening to music and dancing. We do show and tell at times.

  5. I have a 4 year old (5 in November), who was writing her letters before I formally taught her. I am now using handwriting without tears to teach her the right way to form her letters. Like for an example, she starts from the bottom when writing her letters. Has anyone else ever dealt with this? I have corrected her in the past, but just started HWT this week. She forms her letters the right way when working in the workbook, but then goes right back to starting from the bottom when writing anything else. I will give her gentle reminders and continue using the program. Do you think this will work?

And my other question is when it comes to spelling? My dd has always asked since she started writing, how do you spell this? And I have always told her. Am I wrong to be doing this? Should I tell her try to sound it out and let her spell it out how she thinks it should be? And then do I correct

her spelling if it's wrong? What should I do?

    Thanks

  6. I printed the animals around the world from teachers filebox. They have a 3 day free trial before you subscribe. You can veiw them without signing up. The stories are Animals of the Arctic Tundra, Animals of the desert, Animals of the forest, Animals of the rainforest and Animals of the Savanna. I printed all of them, also the activites, cooking, storybook pieces and some math pages.

  7. I am in the process of getting everything together for Animals around the world. My dd will be in K, so far I have the Evan Moor Animals around the world, and some maps from evan moor. I will be picking up DK ultimate animal sticker book.

I am also interested in one of the first animal encyclopedia, but I am unable to choose which one? Anyone have recommendation?

    Thanks
