Having grown up on a citrus ranch my whole life I can honestly say we never once put lemons in the fridge. LOL

Generally no. Occasionally someone will sneak in and steal my heart but for the most part I don't enjoy other people's kids. I have a solid bond with several teens in our town though. I worked with them in a drama program and we bonded.

My daughter got hers back today and got the silver (missed the gold by one point!)
It's bittersweet though...her twin sister did not do so well and she studied very hard. :(
Congratulations to your daughter!

I would have died of pure happiness if I had an artichoke on my tray when I was in school. YUM!

OK, 6 year olds bringing guns to school is rare, yes. But guns at school...not rare in the least. Depending on where you live it can be common. Although security is more common now, when I was in high school there was guns there EVERY day. I know it. Just because someone didn't get caught doesn't mean they aren't there.

I have found that teaching them myself has always worked better than paying for lessons.

Ditto. I'm raising a pair of theatre geeks (at least one of whom fully intends to pursue musical theatre as a career). Musicals are our lives here.
As I type, my son is playing an interesting mix of stuff from two highly inappropriate musicals, Rent and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
My husband and I saw Chicago on Broadway several years ago, and I was prepared to hate the film. But I thought they did a great job with it, very different from the stage version, but good.
I have a hunch that the folks who think Glee is "dumb" are probably, in general, not theatre fans.
I think Glee is dumb and we are fully invested theater folk (performing and viewing). I don't know why it does not appeal to me...it just doesn't.

So every teacher in the world should not have their own children because they can't be' a parent and an educator'? I wouldn't be able to go back, I feel like eventually her philosophies would start to affect my child.

Once in a while.
But I believe I'm eligible for an exemption by virtue of being home with them all day, so there.
Aren't most of us home with them all day? ;)

Probably 95% of the time. Lunch too.

We tried Language Arts LIFEPACS for 1st and 2nd (it was ok but just not challenging or engaging). For some reason I went back to them for 6th grade and my girls said, "Mom, I feel like we learned nothing this year." If my girls noticed how non challenging it was then it was time to ditch it. I wouldn't use it again.

Scratch paper may seem annoying but honestly, since I began giving my son a piece of graph paper to work his problems on he makes way less mistakes. It's easier for him to line up his problems just right.

We are in the middle of First Form and we love it.
There is no Third or Fourth Form. There is First and Second and then i believe you would bridge to Henle from there or another program.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that everyone of every belief has likely had at least one moment of time where they questioned what they believed, if even for a fleeting moment. If they say they haven't, they are probably lying.

SWB can hold her own.
Amen!

My question is without a source of absolutes in which to take your moral compass from, how do you know what IS moral? Where does the right and wrong come from? This is a serious question and I am not being facetious at all. I really do want to know where atheists glean their morals from. And I know you have them, I know some really great atheists. :)

I LOVE April Fools Day on the net! This is the best one I have seen today. My particular abhorrence for The Message Bible makes it even funnier to me.

WOW. Really? They would never be getting a penny of my money. I can't say anything printable really.
To study a language in part is to study and mimic the people who speak it. The question then is whether one wants to emulate a low-IQ people or a high-IQ people. By Studying Spanish, one will imitate those of lower IQs.Nice. Real nice.

This part of the article cracked me up.
Given how bad Ferrer's groundstrokes were in the second set, it's no surprise that the ball didn't come close to hitting the baby. (Rimshot!)

I also clean mine constantly. Our little drawer comes all the way out so I put it in the sink and scrub it out with hot water often. The gasket I try and wipe out at least every week. Otherwise....ew!

Two words come to mind. Snake Oil

Nothing. Read about the half-life of radiation. You get more radiation standing near your microwave. Just because there are traces of iodide found you do not need to panic.

My eldest DD (12) has coined the phrase, "If you aren't weird, you aren't normal."
She says this often. :)
