I assume the gifts were given at home, similar to Christmas morning. I didn't see any at church. It may have been just a few families, with some copying the others' ideas.

I was surprised by the gift giving on Pascha, and I felt badly for my child who felt left out. I understand it is the Feast of Feasts, and, therefore, more "important" than Nativity. Is gift giving common on Pascha? I was raised without Easter baskets, as my mother thought they were tacky, lol. I have given baskets in the past, but, now I focus on one main Pascha basket for the Paschal feast. It is expensive enough to fill one of those for the family...

I was under the impression that the nameday is more important than a birthday and replaces it, somewhat.
After Paschal Vespers on Sunday, one of my children said his friends received gifts that morning. (?)
I'll figure this out someday...

I got him a Children's Orthodox Prayer Book, a small diptych of Theotokos and Christ, and a Twix bar.

Congratulations!!! :)

Thanks!
Is it ever withheld as punishment/discipline?

It's very true what you say that it's safeguarded. And that we have to be prepared -- and preparation isn't super easy. Not even all Orthodox in the room will receive the Eucharist each and every time. The chalice is safeguarded even from the Orthodox!
Can you elaborate on this, please? :)
