How would this fit in to do with elementary science or a comparison?

Maybe this is why it has taken my oldest so long to pick up the alphabet. I did have a fewbooks but he was more interested in tractors, construction books, and anything nature related. We have always focus more on science type learning, I figured colors, shapes, letters, and numbers would come alongside something he was interested in. So please remember to include other things to explore and be curious about!

We call ourselves Fox Mountain Academy. I don't really publicize it anywhere, but that's what's on our homeschool IDs to look more official. :)
Cute! I am trying to think of something to fit us as a family. We live on a farm and are outside all the time so I need something that relates to that. I knew you would have something fun! I was just reading your newest blog post, lol. Love it!

So on a few things I've been asked my homeschool name, we've just completed kindergarten. So I just jotted down our last name with homeschool after it... boring right? But it worked. However, now I feel like it would be better to have something a bit more fun. What do you go by?

I want to add that this review is from a mom with a 6, 4, 2, and 13 month old lol. Not a mom to three teens and a 5-6 yr old.

The possible Dailey schedule given with both writing and reading is:
Poetry. 5-10 min
Class journal* 5-10 min
Printing/copy work* 15 min
Read a story* 20 min
Break or other subject
Foundations and reader words 15 min
Agenda or work period 30 min (this is for things like coloring games or chores)
Break or other subject
Phonetic farm tour 5-10 min
Read words/sentences 5 min
Informal spelling test 5 min.
* is the writing pal part.
Also AAS is not scheduled the sight words are not true dolche words but words that are learned with phonetic rules usually alongside the phonetic farm. Like the first ones are green and yellow. You tell them about how 2 e's are the squeely e's and the sound they make for yellow yOu discuss Ow. For games they are all ready in the book very little prep time and used for reinforcement. They have really made the program almost open and go with so many extras!

I haven't yet but I am planning on Rso science, Nancy Larson, bfsu, and then reading books and watching discovery streaming. Da is very into science and it is like a treat for him. We will cover them all at a lighter pace so nothing too intensive. We've started RSo and he loves it.

Isn't it horrible how they make us second guess ourselves? I worry to much about what school is doing as well when I do not have any intentions on putting them in PS. I should just worry about how he is doing and how he is understanding better than a kid in PS being pushed forward too soon

I love it. I was going to go with phonics road but after seeing it person at convention I bought it. Now that we've started and I've read through it all I can not see doing another program with my younger 3. It has so much to it that makes it the most well rounded program I have either looked through or owned. It teaches in many different ways as well make sure you get the book with all the games to reinforce learning. The writing program is wonderful and I would recommend getting it too if you can. Lmk if you have any specific questions. I adore this program.

We are having EXACTLY the same problem as you! DD turned 6 last week. Like you, we also started with Singapore early bird and DD hated it. DD loves RS but she gets bored and I know she can't picture the Abacus in her mind either. Today, we started with RS B--she seems to like it better. I may keep going with B.
May I ask why you moved up to B?

We use crayola window markers too. I also heard in one of the struggling leathers DVDs that information also is read and retained better in colors other than black print so I always use a different color.

Yes I have a large and small one. I wonder if it is to give the lesson in more than one learning style to make it stick.

Very interesting this will be a neat thread to follow. It does seem when learning CVC words he did much better if it was written larger on the white board. What was the reasoning given?

Thanks we will probablystick with a and then move on. I was thinking summer but sO far it keeps getting pushed back. I am hoping as soon as we get caught up on the garden and jam making we can get back to work. I do feEl it is working he loves math when I do it.

Ok so my DS turned 6 at the end of May so for kindergarten we had started out with Singapore earlybird and he hated it. Halfway through the year we switched and much better. I am still having trouble convincing DH because of the one-ten, two-ten part. But it is working so far. So for the year we only made it halfway through part A. For first grade should I continue with Level A, Start over with level B and move on for the year, or switch to something where DH isn't feeling like he is behind. I am not sure he is 100% understanding all the time b/c I have to review a ton and the abacus isn't in his mind like they say it should be :( Maybe he needs something different??

I bought the IEW PAL program for my first grader on a whim. Wow, I'm in love with it. It is so amazingly well laid out with everything included. I can get all the prep work done this summer so it is open and go. I have not been this excited about any program yet!

I have one of those too! Right start math, and the IEW PAL program, it is uses AAS and minimal writing that can be dictated and many fun games. Even the writing portion of that program is minimal. I wouldn't recommend ETC, it is like pulling teeth for my ds.

I did the trial and it is so bad that he can not decide if he likes the HWOT style or the ball and stick better... so I just let him free write :blush: I know that is probably horrible and I need to decide :(

Thanks everyone. He hates formal handwriting, but will get out a book and copy sentences for fun, that happened overnight a few months ago after fighting for handwriting. I'm worried though b/c some of his letters are not formed correctly and when I try to help him he becomes flustered and I don't want him to stop altogether.
Some days he does well and will sit for longer periods of time, I try to break it up a lot with many breaks. I'm worried that as we have to add more that he will be in this habit. I send him outside to play a lot. He is outside more than any other child I know. He loves science and we just check out mass amounts of library books and read. We read on anything that looks fun.
I am hoping the IEW PAL program will be more hands of for him and it will start to stick. I know I compare him too much and it is really hard not to. And on top of it family will compare him and hold him to a much higher standard b/c he is homeschooled and it isn't fair. I know my little sister is ready very well at the end of first grade (who knows he may be by that point) But he is 14 months younger and a boy.

How do you if your child has progressed enough? I feel like my son forgets things way to easily and it is frustrating. He is so focused on what he wants to do when he's done with school it is like pulling teeth with him every day. Leading to me getting very frustrated. He has three younger siblings that are making trouble as well. We kinda finished K this year and are going into the summer b/c we switched to RS A after Christmas and are only on lesson 35. We are on the last letter in ETC 1 and handwriting is a joke at this point so we just do copywork. He whines all the time. How do you keep going? I want to, but I feel like he is taking advantage of me. Some days it is great and others not so great. On top of it I feel like everyone else's children that are homeschooled are so much further ahead than him. He is reading simple words, but still has to sound them out and can not remember his sight words from lesson to lesson. Grrr...
We are starting new in the fall with IEW's new program for starting out and I hope it helps things stick. We will be doing AAS with it as well. On math I'm wondering if I should stick with RS as he is learning it kinda but still forgetting all the time.
Please tell me I'm not the only first timer feeling frustrated?

I will have a six year old and four year old doing science this fall. I can not decide between apologia (botony), nancy larson k, or bju. Ds is very knowledgable in science for his age so it needs to be a thick program, until now we have just read and spent hours outside exploring. Hands on would be nice, but also something easy for me. His writing is not the best so nothing heavy in that area. Help!

So I've tried twice and lost track of them I used blogspot both times and could never customize it the way I wanted. So what are my other options and how do you keep up On your blog and figure out how to add all the other than basics?
