Ellie exactly captured our thoughts about the three movies.
Megan Follows is wonderful.
JFSinIL is so right about Matthew. It was like he came to life and stepped out of the book.
I would like to own the first two movies of this trilogy. If you like things to stick close to the book, don't watch the third.

Great episode! I've been wondering when this thread would show up!!!
I could have kicked myself for never thinking of Wendy, John, and Michael. I was so annoyed with myself Sunday night! I was even part of a local production of Peter Pan this summer. You would think my brain would have been questioning their absence, but no. Caught totally by surprise!
Fire-making Emma rocks. I love that she and Regina are turning out to be good for each other.
Yes, Hook and Neil were acting like a couple of hormonal nincompoops over Emma.
The shadows reminded me of the dementors in Harry Potter.
Dh and I agree with you others that Snow needs to grow her hair out. We comment on it each episode.
I like Ariel, and I'm glad she can have legs whenever she wants them now. Hope we see Eric soon.
I hope Henry is just under Neverland's powers and that he isn't really turning into a goob. The Storybrooke Henry was smarter and much more spirited. I really hope we see that version of Henry again one day.
Hook is still THE MAN!!!!!!! I think he needs his own spin-off. The producers needn't worry about a big budget. I'd be happy with Hook - the One Man Show. He could be stranded on a desert island, all alone, staring into the distance. Perhaps occasionally throw a stick into the water or take a swig from a coconut. No plot, just Hook. I could happily watch that each week.

It did feel predictable at times. Of course Alice would save him, and I knew Jafar would turn on the witch. I like Lizard. Hope we see more of her.

No discount for me, either, and our Kindle Fire is not even tied to my account so I can't use that as an excuse. : ( I would have bought a basic one for that price.

Does your extended family usually have applesauce at Thanksgiving? If so, is it store bought or homemade? If not, do you know if SIL is thinking that it might be a kid friendly option to have on hand or is it to be enjoyed by all? If it's to be mainly for the kids, she might have store bought in mind. I'm not saying that kids can't enjoy homemade (mine does); I'm just trying to guess what SIL might have in mind since I've never equated applesauce with Thanksgiving dinner. It's not a bad idea, though, and now I'm jonesing to make a batch of homemade applesauce.

My dd just turned 10. She likes:
Good quality art supplies
Stuffed animals
Skylanders
Minecraft
Her nature collection
Playmobil
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic figures
Duct tape, scotch tape, masking tape, all sorts of tape . . .
Her survival bucket that she came up with after reading The Mysterious Benedict Society
Paracord and clasps for making bracelets
Games - especially monopoly, catan, doodle dice, and Yahtzee
Snap circuits
Frisbee
And . . . She loves her nerf guns - esp when her dad plays with her or one of her friends of the male sort are over. We just have the boring old marketed-to-boys type nerf guns, though.

An early 1960s RevereWare tea kettle I bought on ebay. It gets used more than anything else in my kitchen.

I have an only and for years we received loads and loads of hand-me-downs from friends. I also shop thrift stores, consignment sales/stores, and ebay - especially now that the hand-me-downs have stopped. Dd has never once complained and seems to have caught my opinion that second hand is an environmentally sound choice. Plus, she has so many more clothes this way than if I were to buy only new.

I'm another who just cannot limit the list to two. Some of our favorites are:
The Trees of the Dancing Goats - Polacco
Christmas Tapestry - Polacco
Christmas Trolls - Brett
Who's that Knocking on Christmas Eve? - Brett
The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus - Baum
A Christmas Memory - Capote
The Story of Holly and Ivy - Godden
The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey - Wojciechowski
The Polar Express - Van Allsburg
A Christmas Carol - Dickens
The Night Before Christmas - Moore illustrated by Ingpen
Georgie's Christmas Carol - Bright
Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas - Hoban
Mortimer's Christmas Manger - Wilson/Chapman
The Beautiful Christmas Tree - Zolotow
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - Seuss
I can't wait until Thanksgiving night! We get to start reading Christmas stories again! : )
ETA- Have fun adding to your collection!

Here are my tea sources:
www.teaguys.com (too many faves to name them all, but roasted cocoa mate is my go-to weekend breakfast treat)
www.adagio.com (love the cheap shipping and the samplers)
www.harney.com (current faves are Paris and White Christmas, but they have lots of others I really like)
www.elmwoodinn.com (blueberry infusion is to die for - excellent hot or cold, makes an exceptionally good sun tea - all fruit, though, so technically not a true tea)

: )
Dd agrees with you re: the dresses. She was voicing her displeasure to the TV.
Loved Hook's and Snow's secrets. Emma's surprised me. Not complaining, though, and it was pretty clever of the writers to let her move on in that way. No one can blame her for stepping back from Neil, and then bam! There's Hook just waiting for her. Yay! Still wondering how this David never leaving Neverland thing is going to work. Maybe Rumple can find a way to keep him alive?
I might have sent up a fist pump when Emma and Neil had their chat.
So happy we're going back to Storybrooke! I've missed it!
I still cannot stand Pan. I do like seeing Rumple and Regina working together for a good cause, though. I hope they can defeat smarmy little Pan. Oh, I just remembered a thought I had when Regina said something about defeating Pan w/o anyone dying. A fate worse than death? I think she'll find a way to make time work again on Neverland and Pan will have to grow up!
Can't wait to see more of the Ariel/Eric story!

Best: Baby Ruth
Worst: Tootsie Rolls

Okay, we finally watched the episode, and I admit I've come over to the dark side. Neil who? Hook and Emma HAVE to get together! That was the best kiss ever, and I love Hook's "As you wish"! Hook's backstory is captivating. This is by far my most favorite episode from all three seasons. The OUAT writers have earned their keep! : )
-
Ack! I missed a good one, huh? My inlaws are here for an indefinite length of time. All of our tv viewing is messed up while they're here. : ( They talk constantly and loudly. If only I could assign them a bedtime.
-
I do this, too! : )
-
I second granola.
-
It's on! It's on! Must go! I'll check back in afterward!!!!!!! Oh, wait, I see HOOK! Yes!!!!!!
: ) I posted a special shout out to you after we watched the show. Look for it - your name is in the title. : ) I even used exclamation points.

Tried book clubs a couple of times, and they aren't for me, either. I'd rather enjoy books of my choosing at my own pace, and I happen to enjoy keeping my thoughts and feelings about a book all to myself for awhile. Books are like secret little worlds that I don't have to share with anyone.
-
It looks like you will be one happy lady next Sunday night! If you haven't seen the preview for OUAT for next week, you must seek it out ASAP!

Several years ago, dd and I both came down with a bad case of strep right before Thanksgiving. I hadn't bought a thing for dinner because we were supposed to travel out of state to be with my SIL. SIL had a new baby who had lots of complications, so we didn't want to risk sharing our germs despite antibiotics. Who knew if dh was contagious at that point, right? So, we bought our entire meal already cooked from The Fresh Market. It was so good that we've ordered from them ever since. I do make a few sides on my own, but the turkey and some sides still come from them. I love that I'm not too tired from cooking all day to enjoy my family.

Great thread! We love Horrible Histories, but many of these other suggestions are new to me. I'm happy to add them to our list of things to check out. Yay!
-
Yes, but I think I'll try to sleep soon. Good luck on catching some zzzzzzs.

Yikes. Never mind. I did not realize this was a high school post at first. Please forgive my intrusion. We're still years away!

We hosted Stanley for some friends. Our Stanley rode a camel at the zoo and saw the giant pandas and polar bears, went to a scarecrow festival and voted for his favorite scarecrow, ate ice cream, played on the playground at the largest city park in the country, went to a homeschool class at our local botanic garden, and hung out at local theatres. We're a theatre family, so Stanley spent time in rehearsals for A Christmas Carol and went to see a few plays around town.
What are your top two favourite children's Christmas books?

Thanks to this thread, I'm adding to my already not-too-shabby collection. I have several titles on my wish list now, and I just ordered The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree. It arrived Friday, and I read it right away. It's beautiful!! I'm so glad it's now in our stash. A very big thank you to those who mentioned it!
