  1. Right. Since the CLRC course is for grades 8 and 9, we assume that she will take high school English classes the coming year. Her reading and grammar are beyond grade level. In order not to repeat the same class, would WTMA, Aim Academy, and Latern's classes are good options?
  2. MCT Language Arts has been recommended by many in the forum. Anyone has the experience of the online class? It is quite expensive though. Online G3 also offers the class (ex. grammar town). Would like to know more about it, or any other alternatives? Thanks.
  3. She will be 8th grade. Given that she is not high school yet, grade might not matter for college application?! We feel it fine to try/experience. Just wonder how deep a STEM student usually dive into literature courses? Time is limited. One can't do everything interested.
  4. Dd has taken Introduction to Literature and Composition in CLRC the school year. She found it's a bit light/easy for her and would like a class that focuses more on composition. She'd like to polish her writing skills. Based on the information from the forum, we are currently thinking about Christine Proctor's English Literature & Composition in BT. However, we understand that the load of the course is not light. Since she is interested in STEM and already has quite amount of math/science classes and activities on her schedule, we wonder if the class serves her need. Any suggestion? Thank you!
  5. Math is my DD12's favorite subject. Though we, as parents, both have solid STEM background, she works through AoPS pre-algebra and algebra with very few intervention from us. She also attends local math circle since last year. Now, she is thinking about attending the coming AMC8 and AMC10. For AMC10, we are not sure she is ready because she has only learned some middle school Geometry through an online math camp this summer. How can we support/advise her? Suggest to work directly on previous contest problems, or take some crash courses?! Compared to the systematic learning based on a curriculum, we wonder if this will make the knowledge fragmented and is not a way to build solid foundation?! Kind of a distraction?! Or, it's better to accelerate/enrich math background first and have a longer-term plan?! We appreciate if you can share your experience and offer some suggestions. Thank you!
  6. Our daughter will be finishing Pre-Algebra. She did every problems in the book by herself with essentially no support. It takes her almost a year to finish it. Moving forward, we wonder should we still make her do all the problems in Intro. Algebra? We feel it would still take a long time. We wonder what's the approach you take to finish AoPS curriculum? We notice that some people also use Alcumus at the same time. But, same question here, how can one solve so many problems (or problems that take some deep thinking) but still be able to accelerate?
  7. Hi, If you are using MCT language art, do you use the whole homeschool package or part of it (only the grammar)? We already have Structure and Style from IEW. I guess it more gears toward writing. I am not sure it's duplicated if we use bot MCT and Structure and Style at the same time. In addition, is there anyone who has the experience about the online MCT language art program? Is it a good resource if the parents would like to put their energy in other subjects? Thank you!
