  1. It matters in FL in regards to sports.  The FHSAA rules are something like using an umbrella school that issues a transcript/diploma and is registered with the state of FL makes you ineligible to play sports for public or private schools as a home schooler.  But if you use FLVS it's okay, or if you use an umbrella school that is out of state you are still eligible to play.  Something like that.  The rules are in place to prevent recruiting, and keeping the playing field fair.

I wanted one until my neighbor got one. They hated it from day one and wound up returning it just before the return window ended. They gave it their best shot. Between my neighbor's story, stories of others, and my own, I have been sufficiently cured of my 'expensive bed' thoughts and will go the 'old fashioned' route when we get a new one.

I hated mine for the first week. It was hot, hard, and smelly. Then I googled and found out that it needs to be broken in-the pores of the foam need to open up. I walked up and down the mattress to help it along. Now I love it. Those issues are not a problem anymore.

  3. Last year was our first year in CC Foundations and Essentials with my 6th and 4th graders. All we did for history at home was read SotW finishing 1 and then doing 2. We also did a lot of read alouds from TOG year 2 that I had bought prior to deciding to join CC. It may not seem like much history, but when I consider all the history they learned in Foundations, all the history and writing they did in Essentials, as well as all the presentations they did on history topics (this applies to science as well), I feel we had a really full year of history.

We didn't get to much science during the year at home, but we are doing RS4K biology and hopefully chemistry over the summer.

So now my older child is going into Challenge A this fall and I am going to continue with SoTW 3 and 4, along with the Betsy Maestro books on American history. I'll also add in more RS4K. I think we will have a great year.

  4. We had a couple of 2 day volleyball tournaments in Orlando which is about an 1 1/2 hour away from us, and we always came up the night before the first day. We usually paid about $80 per night with the team discount. It was fun because many of my daughter's teammates and their families were in the same hotel and everybody considered it a fun weekend getaway.

  5. We're about an hour south of Cocoa on the Atlantic coast and were given Tropical Storm warnings for Sunday-Monday. I'm glad it's not coming here since dh is out of town and didn't put the shutters up. Our generator is not working either. But we have food, water, and flashlights if needed.

I used to think hurricanes were fun until we got hit by Frances and Jean back in 2004. I never want to do that again.

  6. We have been to Sea World several times this summer and I highly recommend Shamu Rocks if you are there on a day that they are open till 10pm. We love sitting in the splash zone and we do get soaking wet with cold, salty water! We love it, but not everybody does!

We also enjoy Sea Lions Tonight when they are open late, but the day time shows are great too. The night-time shows are just edgier.

    Have Fun!

  7. I used both. I started using TOG and SOTW at the same time, so I don't know what one is like without the other. I really liked how SOTW summed up the week for us. Are you using year 4? Is STOW not scheduled? It was in year 1.

We didn't use the worksheets much either but still had a great year.

  8. I've stayed at Coronado Springs and enjoyed it much more than the Pop one we stayed at. Room was bigger at Coronado and it had a fridge. It had 2 pools one of which had a water slide. There was a bit of a hike to the main lobby and restaurants.

Pop All-Star Movies was okay. The room was smaller but the pool is nice and close the the restaurant. I think they also showed a movie at night by the pool.
