They have tons of free, simple games with colorful graphics. If you subscribe you get access to more games and no ads. We have subscribed sometimes, sometimes not, it is still a good site even without the subscription.
http://www.uptoten.com is the main page.

and then one on an upper molar that was horrible because it had to be re-done. I think it took 4 appointments to get that upper molar finished with a specialist (he had a microscopic image as he worked). It was very painful but probably only had to be redone because of an odd anatomy of my tooth. Although my lower molar was not "fun" it was very easy in comparison and I think that is the more normal experience.

and it's just as well. I like to be in or just next to the kitchen for all our school activities, so I can cook or clean when I get short breaks. It also forces me to clean it all up each evening.

And expecting more all week long. There is no place to put it! I had to keep my 7th grader home from school on Thursday because our road was so bad (blizzard conditions). I *don't want* six more weeks of winter!

I have been trying to think of a way to get the message across as well. Especially to not put huge items on the bottom tray that will block the water from going up to the top, and putting the glasses upside down so they don't simply fill with water.

It is a weighted belt that the child wears that helps them feel "centered" and helps to calm them down to do their tasks. I think it may work for my 7yodd but I wanted to see if anyone else has used it.
Here is their web site:

our Episcopal church liturgy uses many Latin phrases and I wanted them to correspond to what we were studying. My girls and I get a kick out of actually knowing what the words mean now (we had recited them in prayers for years but did not know exactly what they meant).

We are starting to go through "Literary Lessons from Lord of the Rings" as a year long afterschool study. We have also done Latin roots and online math practice (ALEKS) in the past. She was homeschooled until the end of 5th grade and started PS when we moved to a very small town where she is one of seven 7th graders. PS has its pros and cons, some days I wish she were still at home and some days I am thankful that she is getting educated elsewhere so I can focus on her little sisters. There are only so many hours in a day.
I homeschool my middle dd who is now in 2nd grade. I am planning on homeschooling her much longer, perhaps through middle or high school.
I have a 3yo dd who keeps us hopping.

I don't notice anything about them until they are over and I wake up literally soaked in sweat. I don't feel bad, just freezing cold until I change my shirt. Ugh, it's murder getting older. I'm 46 and have had these for a few years now.

I have the best luck with it. I use the "Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a Day" recipes and bake bread almost daily.
Not so good luck with metal pans - the sides always come out undercooked, but maybe I haven't experimented enough with pans.

It was more costly than a regular pizza peel but I use it every day. It is a pastry cloth covered peel that works sort of like a conveyor belt to transfer dough to the hot stone. It took a bit of getting used to but it works very well.

We make it to TJ's about twice a year - when we're in Portland for something or other. We usually stock up on some interesting wines, cookies, crackers, and salsas.

One thing that struck me is how, for the era, the romance and passion between Jane and Mr. Rochester must have been sizzling hot! I really did not expect Jane Eyre to be a book I could not put down, but it was. I am looking forward to Villette.

changed my life lately. We have been eating *delicious* fresh bread with hearty soups, home made pizzas, and all other sorts of things. You can have meat or not with these things but if you didn't, believe me, you would not miss it.
I splurged and invested in the things that the book suggested:
baking stone
pizza peel
large rubbermaid container for keeping bread dough in the refrigerator
oven thermometer
My dd asked me yesterday, "Mom, are we part Italian?" LOL.
The reason I am bringing this up is that the soups were just not enough of a "meal" without the bread, which seems to make all the difference.

when she was between the ages of 5-11 she could be literally sitting in a chair and end up falling on the floor. She is a lot better now (13) but still plays rough and gets a lot of bumps and scrapes.

I have used the following from MCT's site and LOVE them for my middle schooler:
Caesar's English I
Classical Words
Classics in the Classroom
I was just waiting for my dd7 to read a little better and I will soon order his whole series of grammar and poetry texts.
The teacher and student manuals are the same, just that the TM has answers...you can get by with the TM if you want to save $$. The cost is well worth this program - they ship quickly, too.

this afternoon ... and now there is almost a foot of new snow on it. We shoveled our deck just before dinner, got it all cleaned off and had to re-shovel 9 new inches of snow just now. It snowed an inch in the time we shoveled one side of the deck. I think it is going to be a snow day (snowed-in day) tomorrow!

We have 3' drifts - no one can get in or out of our area. I've been on the phone most of today with the neighbors trying to get it worked out how we will get dug out of here. My dh had to park a half mile away and has been going back and forth with snowshoes. I love the snow but when accompanied by high winds it is terrible. This is all on top of an 18 inch base!

It just depends on the discussions and thoughts that can occur as a result. Star Trek is part of my past, and our family has fun remembering old episodes. Back when I was working as an engineer our entire computer lab would take the afternoon off to go see a new Star Trek movie on opening day.
Always the nerd,

Dana,
Do be careful if you purchase a mini-trampoline. When my 17yodd was 7, she loved using the mini-trampoline in the house. We threw the trampoline out in the trash the day after she busted a very deep hole on her face, just a 1/2 inch from her eye, requiring tons of stitches from a plastic surgeon. She still has a small scar from the ordeal even though the PS did an amazing job of the mess.
I'd recommend something else, anything but a mini-trampoline.
Aaaah, I'm so sorry that happened to your daughter and thanks for the warning. I'm not so sure I want one of these now. Each piece of equipment I can think of has its own inherent hazards.

Oh my. I don't want to do anything to drive myself more crazy - the hoppy balls I have had to get rid of before because my kids are maniacs on them and would surely break their necks. We have stairs - lots of them. I wasn't thinking of a ball chair with a frame, but a large ball that she could sit on while reading, etc.
I do like the link you included, thanks!

My 7yodd is sooooo active. 3yo sister is a close second. I was thinking of a mini-tramp (rebounder) with a bar or an exercise ball to sit on. I hate to give up the floor space but I am going out of my mind and it's too cold and icy to be outdoors unless full winter gear is on. I'm looking for something to burn off energy *during* school.
Anyone with pros/cons or other suggestions?

Need a good Pillow
in General Education Discussion Board

if you go to a Bed, Bath, and Beyond, you can look at about a hundred pillows and decide which would be best. I recently got a "down alternative" pillow there that is wonderful, as well as two king size foam pillows that will be used as a backrest against our headboard. The foam pillows look like they will keep their shape forever. The foam pillows were (surprisingly) kind of expensive but we wanted something that was going to last a while.
