Chris in PA Posted February 15, 2008 Share Posted February 15, 2008 Can someone recommend a good test prep book for the PSAT? I want my daughter to take it this fall as a sophomore for practice. Can anyone also tell me when you can register for it? My understanding is that you register at the school closest to you. I would want her to take it at one of the local Christian schools. periwinkle Posted February 15, 2008 Share Posted February 15, 2008 and we simply called a Chistian school in Carlisle in April or May to see if they would let us take the test there in the fall (and they said certainly--they try to work with homeschoolers). Then, I called again in September to confirm our registration and find out details. It all went very smoothly. As far as test prep, we didn't use a book specific for the PSAT...instead we just used basic SAT prep (from collegeboard's website and Rocket Review Revolution book by Adam Robinson). However, perhaps someone else has better advice concerning this, as ds's PSAT scores were actually lower than his SAT scores (and that seems to be unusual). We did nothing before her 10th grade testing. I'm thinking of buying a handful of tests for practice before she does the 11th grade test. Gwen in VA Posted February 15, 2008 Share Posted February 15, 2008 I second what everyone else has said -- 1) SAT question of the day from the College Board 2) Rocket Revolution SAT study guide -- just skip the writing section for now since there is no writing section on the PSAT 3) number2.com is a free online SAT prep course. It is reasonable, and it has a GREAT vocabulary section 4) Sign up at a local Christian school. We have a Catholic school around the corner from us, and they have been so sweet over the years letting my kids do PSAT's and AP exams there.
