................... Posted September 3, 2014 Share Posted September 3, 2014 that has discussion questions and even occasional essay prompts...advanced 7th or 8th grade, would be fine. I was going to just have my son read Ambleside books, which he normally loves, but sometimes we don't get around to really discussing them..also I would like to assign a few essays related to literature. He does read plenty of books on his own, and he does talk to me about them, so it's okay if (gasp) the literature textbook has mostly excerpts. I like the samples of the Abeka stuff for 8th grade, but I'm not sure it includes worthwhile discussion points. I'd like to spend under 40.00 ish. You can see samples at lost books classics (I think that's the name) and purchase there or at amazon. If you want to be even more frugal these are free online at archive.org.
