juliecram
Is teaching IEW A enough grammar for my 3rd grader or should I add in some more grammar lessons. My older children have done IEW B and also Easy Grammar, but is it too much for an 8 year old? Thanks, Julie
East Coast Sue
I think it depends on how much she is comprehending the grammar that is presented in IEW. Some kids need the practice of completing exercises to fully understand grammar. Some kids will pick it up through reading, writing, and basic instruction. Does she know her parts of speech and how to identify them? If you are concerned you could try adding some additional explanation. Shurley Grammar works well with IEW if you are looking for a recommendation of a grammar program to use at her level. It also has extra content that isn't really necessary for the study of grammar, but it is easy to teach. FWIW, I use IEW and sometimes feel the need to supplement with Shurley Grammar or Our Mother Tongue.
