writing questions

At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, I have question(s?) about a couple of writing curriculums. This is the one area I don't have a hard & fast plan in place yet. My kids are boys, 2nd & 3rd grade. I started out having them journal, but didn't feel great about that (they didn't either). Then I had them do some "copywork" that I pulled out, but wasn't sure I was handling it correctly. SO I ordered WWE. I read through & ran a trial week this week of WWE1 Lesson 36 to see do we need to do some of 1 or move to 2. Now I'm totally looking at Bravewriter. When I haven't made a decision, this is how I am. I just bounce around trying to make heads or tails of things & end up just spending too much before settling on something. The good news is once I've settled, I'm pretty happy with the product, but it's a long process getting there :).

What I'd really like to know are the PRIMARY differences of the two programs, or are they so different they can't be compared? They are both copywork/dictation/narration programs right? I'm also intrigued by IEW, although I haven't even considered springing for that until I explore these other options. Ultimately I'll pay what it costs if it's the best thing for my boys, but more $$ doesn't necessarily = better stuff, right?

Can you shed a little light before I just dig in my heels & start reading? I'm just trying to save myself HOURS of sorting it all out.

BraveWriter has several different products. If you want copywork, you could go with The Wand or The Arrow. The Wand might be too easy for your kids. The Arrow might be too hard. Look at the samples to decided. The other main BraveWriter product is The Writer's Jungle. I don't recommend it for you at this stage. It is mostly for older kids and it doesn't give lesson plans so it can be difficult to implement. If you like their philosophy, think about getting it later. Neither The Wand nor The Arrow will give you narration.

WWE will provide copywork, dictation, and narration all rolled together. You can do the workbooks or use the hardback book as a guide to picking your own selections.

I would not do both BraveWriter and WWE at the same time.
