trafal
I would appreciate some help with this sentence. Is the verb transitive or intransitive and why? The explosion covered Henrietta with glitter. In order for a verb to be transitive the direct object must receive action from the verb. Therefore, the sentence must contain 1) an action verb and 2) a direct object. Obviously, covered is an action verb . My question is is Henrietta a direct object or an indirect object. DD thinks Henrietta is an indirect object because it answers the question who. I think it is a direct object because for some reason (can't remember why) I beleive you cannot have a direct object w/out an indirect object . Clear as mud ? :) Appreciate any help!! Dana
You cant have an indirect object without a direct object. Subject...explosion Verb...covered ...action verb. What was covered? Henrietta. Direct object. There isn't an IO. With glitter is a prepositional phrase.
