What grammar for a whole to parts learner??

Maybe KISS or MCT? They both have you analyzing real sentences from literature. KISS starts with finding simple subject and verb phrases, then adds subject complements, prepositional phrases, etc. But you're starting out with a whole sentence, just ignoring any parts you don't know yet.

(note that I don't know anything about parts to whole vs. whole to parts )
