MamaSheep
My ds has really been enjoying that first one. He is the sort who is anxious about things and likes clear instructions, step by step, at first with good explanations, and then likes to take off tinkering around with it on his own after he feels he has a good handle on the basics. I've been able to just hand him this book and then have him show me his different projects as he goes through it. Not to throw another one into the mix, but we also got him this one http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-MINDSTORMS-NXT-2-0-Technology/dp/1430224916/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1325536809&sr=1-1 for when he's done with the Discovery book. It has several scenarios in it, and you're supposed to design your own robot to meet the criteria to solve the problem in the scenario. We haven't tried it yet, though.
