KristineIN Posted April 13, 2008 Share Posted April 13, 2008 My kids love it, it's kind of hands on, artsy in a way, since you "can" draw things out if you use the instructors guides. What do you like? 1. What do those who love this suggest buying? I've read that some use only the student worksheets. What would we be missing if we don't buy the teacher's guide? 2. For those who've used the old (classical) and new worksheets-- which do you prefer and why? The new pages look so attractive, but I've heard some prefer the old ones. 3. How many lessons are in each guide book? Is it one guide book, one worksheet book per year? (How many lessons do you do a week.) 4. How long do the lessons take? 5. Can you use the old teacher guides and the new worksheet pages? (Or have they not yet developed new TG? I heard they don't quite match up.) I have a teachers guide from 1993 and in it is has Instructions Lessons 1-104 Study Helps Drills & Maps (Drills are printable items, for instance the first page is Divisions of the New Testament and it has Gospels, History, Letters & Prophecy with pictures and cut lines, you basically make a lift a flap with the answers underneath. Also, there are 42 pictures that you cut apart and have your children tell you what they represent, for instance picture #1 is a tree on the answer sheet it says 1.tree-Zacchaeus climbed, Luke 19:1-10; tree of life, genesis 2:8-14. Other pictures, tent, donkey, boat, star, bird, money, sword and so on... Visuals-all of the pictures that are drawn in the activity pages and in the visuals. 2. In the guidebook there are 104 lessons in unit 1 (they suggest 2 lessons a week, you can break the lessons up and do a little bit each day or you could even do more than two a week) I think the activity guides are broken up into three activity books for every unit covered (it's either three or four) 4. How long do the lessons take? The lessons take as long as you want. My children love learning about the Bible and if I get through the lessons, they sometimes want to keep going. We could spend 20-30 minutes, or we could spend an hour. 5. Can you use the old teacher guides and the new worksheet pages? (Or have they not yet developed new TG? I heard they don't quite match up.) I'm not sure about this. Anyway, that's just a little bit, I guess the nice thing about the IG is that you can use it with any age, the activity sheets are broken down into different age groups and you can't copy them. I've heard of some people not writing in them and reusing them. Also for me, the extra Drills and Maps are what my children enjoy doing. I cut the pictures apart and when we first were going over them, I'd let them take turns coloring the pictures. Also, I like the visuals that have the lift a flaps, we hang them on the wall and go over them. I'm not sure if there are samples of the IG, but I would be happy to copy a page or two and mail to give you some ideas of how it's laid out. HTH.
