Hi, Just hoping to get some input on how teacher intensive MCT Grammar is. I'm needing my 4th grader to have some independent subjects where I can teach and give an assignment, etc. How conducive is this program to student independent work? thanks!

Thanks for the input, I think the general consensus is I may be expecting too much from my eight yr old. She's my first, so it helps hearing from others what is age appropriate. Thank you all!

My 8 year old daughter has been confessing so many things to me lately. today she told me she had only been reading the beginning and end of some of her independent reading. We use old fashioned education and Robinson list of books to cover history, science, and literature, so it's reading that counts, not just reading for pleasure. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have her re read a good bit...we've been discussing sowing and reaping, and I can't not let her experience the consequences, etc. my question is, how do you hold your child accountable for independent reading? I generally spot check each day by having her narrate something back to me, but not books like Young Folks Plutarch, because I know they are a little more difficult than say bobbsey twins, Heidi, etc. so, to me, it was enough for her just to absorb what she could and I'd be happy with that. She is nearing being able to summarize in paragraph form from writing with ease, wondering if she should do that ??

Hi, My daughter, who is just one, has been diagnosed with brain damage. I have 3 other children tht I homeschool, and I know it's a long time away, but just wondering what is required for disabled children. life it'self with all the therapy we are doing right now seems hard enough. I can't imagine teaching her a full scope and sequence that I have/will my others. Any suggestions/knowledge about this? We live in AL.

her limitations don't appear to be cognitive, but she is unable to hold her head up and can't sit up. she can use her hands some.

Would you say Math Mammoth is independent? To any extent at all? Or should I plan to be right with my child for the entire lesson? Can you teach in the beginning and then leave the worksheet for the child to complete?

[Does FLL-3 need a supplement?]

I use WWE 1/2 with FLL 1/2 . Is that needed with FLL-3?

My just turning 7 yr old is a good reader, loves to read. I'm wondering when to let her go and if she'll not like independant reading when I do??? There are some things she could be reading now like science and history on her own and then I'd do the teacher intensive subjects like grammer, math, etc with her. Any suggestions?

We've used AAS for 2 levels now, we didn't like the magnetic tiles, but I found some reading rods at a thrift store and my daughter LOVES them. They are much easier to work with. I recommend them vs the magnetic tiles.

I have a first grader, she's a pretty good student, but really doesn't have great motivation as far as a need to remember things. I haven't been testing her formally, but wondered when this starts and if it would be a good motivaiton factor. Any advice?

I agree, it would be much easier, for me, if the Bible defined modest dress, but it doesn't, hence the discussion. I guess it's just heavy on my heart right now and I'm looking for help. While there are grey areas, there are obvious black and white ones TO ME. Either way, "working out my salvation" I am.
