  1. I know they go back and forth on fish oil and its benefits or lack thereof, but I use Nordic Naturals EPA XTRA with good results. I'm petite and only take a half dose. If not fish oil, then olive oil - work up to three tablespoons a day in divided doses.

You probably already know all this but other foods rich in Omega-3s are avocados, nuts, tuna, salmon, and flaxseeds. For non-dairy calcium, consider chia seeds, tofu, almonds, and lots of leafy greens.

At the end of every shower and sometimes for the entire shower if it's summer, I rinse with very cold water for at least 2 minutes. This really seems to help my joints esp after exercising.

  2. Thank you for the help. This is embarrassing but my husband who was teleworking two floors below in the room next to son's bedroom was mistaken when he alerted me about his vomiting - son did throw up water upon awakening and tea a couple hours later, but he kept the chicken soup down and has NOT thrown up again.  Husband heard coughing, thought it was vomiting, and texted me to figure out whether urgent care was needed and I ran with it.  Should have checked with son first!

  3. Hello, my husband and I both have Covid right now for the first time and we're doing okay, but our 18 year old son now has it with a severe sore throat and vomiting (three times today) and not able to keep anything down (water, tea, chicken noodle soup). He just recently had his birthday and aged out of his pediatrician and doesn't even have a primary care doctor yet. Do you think we should take him to the urgent care or ER? He is otherwise strong and healthy with no underlying conditions.

Thank you very much for any advice... I'm just asking what would you do?

  4. I began homeschooling in 2001 when I had six children, ages 10 and under.  I wrote to the WTM website, wondering if such a thing were advisable or even possible.  I don't know that I really expected anyone to read my message, much less reply, but a day or two later I received a lengthy, heartfelt response from Jessie Wise, full of ideas and encouragement.  Wow, it still gives me goosebumps to think of it! Unfortunately, I was also rather new to Internet communications at the time and didn't save that email.  But I've always treasured that gesture in my mind and had the greatest respect for SWB, her mother, and their influence on the homeschooling world.

I hope they see this thread.

  5. We didn't always do many extras since I had so many littles back in the day, but I never missed reading aloud through the volumes and they got a lot from "only" reading.  My firstborn (now 29) adored history and read Volume 1 in its entirety in a day after it was published (circa 2001)… later went to Princeton on a full scholarship to study history and always credited SoTW and SWB for his early interest and ambition.

  6. We began in 2001 and I'm in my mid 50's now...I still have five schooling at home, including a 6yo.  All my older children have done very well in college, so that gives me confidence with our choices, which have ranged over the years from WTM to CMish to "mom-invented" and back again.  I use more Memoria Press products now because the structure does us all good.  We've always used their Latin curricula but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could use many of their other materials in a (sort of) relaxed way...we call the workbooks our "guidebooks" and we employ lots of discussion and drawing with each subject, two of my kids' favorite things.  I was also surprised to find that they, too, like the structure and predictability of our MP days.

I'm still in good health, but I've got an eye on the future, especially with my youngest child, in terms of how best to approach our situation if I should encounter health concerns or have to care for my aging parents at some point. I suppose I think a lot about homeschooling longevity these days, which goes with the territory if you've been  blessed with more than the average number of children.

  7. Well, I haven't been at it THAT long, but I remember ordering my first set of Singapore math books (circa 2000) directly from Singapore...they arrived on a wing & a prayer about a month later barely packaged together with a couple sheets of newspaper (no box).  I saved a dollar or two doing it that way...didn't do it again, though.
