My daughter is using Thinkwell prealgebra this year. She loves the short lectures and the explanations seem solid. So far so good

I'm going to try to step out of "lurkdom" and actually become a participant on the boards!
I'm Matona.
I have five children but only homeschool 2. They are dd11 and ds9. I have a dd13 who goes to a school for dyslexia and two littles, ds7 and dd5, who go to our neighborhood school.
I love TWTM and mostly follow it. I am still developing my educational theories but I believe reading is the key. We do a lot of that. We also whine a lot. I consider my self a facilitator of information not a teacher.
I have no clever quote, coffee gets me through the day.

I am a professional WTM lurker homeschooling 3 of my five children. I haven't settled on a label yet as I have only recently deconverted from christianty. I am learning to think for myself and asking questions and trying to teach my children to do the same. I am enjoying my freedom (freedom for me) immensely.

My Dad died in a car accident when I was just 21. He would have been an amazing grandfather. I miss him for my children; but mostly I miss him for myself.

My son loves the "Simon Bloom" books. There are two so far and he is pining for a third.

Aldi is great! I just assumed Huntsville had one. Now I feel a little better about Decatur!! I think the Aldi has great produce and deals on dairy. Of course, you have to be open to what they have stocked. It is a very busy store so hopefully it will stick around

We wasted 3 years of d's life in public school. The teachers just are not equipped to remediate dyslexia/calc. However, maybe you can find a tutor if you need help. My daughter is now 12 and reads on grade level but is doing math two years behind (they don't use grades at her school). I really had to let go of my expectations and accept her pace! She is medicated for her ADHD and that has helped her tremendously both academically and socially. I think a big help, too, is teaching them to own their education and their struggles and to advocate for their needs.

I have a daughter with dyslexia and dyscalculia, in addition to ADHD. She is currently in her third year at a private school for dyslexia. At school she uses Singapore for math and lots of drill. We have worked on mult. facts for 4 years now! She understands concepts but has a horrible time memorizing. Somedays, I can't imagine her ever being remediated but she has definitely made progress. The school uses O-G and lots of one on one; it is very intense. If we didn't have such personality differences I would probably teach her at home. Other, amazing women on this board have done it!

We have two in PS (son in 1st, daughter in 5th), 3rd grade son at home with preschool sister, and 6th grader at a private school for dyslexia. It's crazy but everyone is where they need to be. Oh, and I am trying to be everywhere! We just take each year at a time and I have learned to "never say never"!

This happens both ways! A couple of my children go to a great public school, one is in private school, and one is at home! I don't waste much time defending our family decisions but I hear plenty of advice and opinions. Actually, I just defended myself by writing that our public school is "great"! I am working on just keeping my mouth shut!

I have four children in school. DD11 goes to a private school for dyslexia (it goes thru 8th grade). DD10 and DS6 are in the neighborhood school and DS7 is in a magnet program. We love our schools and have no issues at all except that I like the neighborhood school better than the magnet and will send the 3 there next year. We are very blessed. I am open to homeschooling for middle school or whenever the need may arise. In the meantime, I get to do the fun stuff and fulfill my homeschool fantasy during the summer!

Iwanted to encourage you! My 11dd is in her second year at a school for dyslexic children and it has been the absolute best thing for our family. She is a different person-confident,articulate,willing to read. She is no longer angry or defiant concerning academics. She studies independently and reads on grade level. Give this a try. I hope your daughter makes great strides academically. BTW, we still have time to study the fun stuff!

We adopted an older german shepherd mix from the shelter last December. She is also very sweet and docile but can be protective. She has growled at guests and even nipped my husband's grandfather. I have found that we have to be very firm with her and she needs plenty of exercise even though she is older.
Despite her territorial tendencies and her amazing ability to escape from the backyard, she is a great pound dog. Again, I think exercise and attention are the key with any dog but maybe more so with a large one.

in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges

My daughter is using Thinkwell for prealgebra and she loves, loves, loves it. The lectures are short so she does a couple a day and then the practice exercises. She thinks Mr. Buerger is awesome.
I moved my son up to Thinkwell 6 after trying him in TT5 and 6. He really didn't like TT and wasn't challenged. He also likes Mr. Buerger and doesn't have the frustration with math that he has shown in the past.
Thinkwell seems to be a keeper around here. We supplement with LoF and Penrose for fun but I don't think we need to.
