[What next for history?]

Has anyone read Dan Hunter's "Living History"?

[What next for history?]

We have cycled through the Story of the World twice and really enjoyed it. My 11 yo son has especially liked the last 100 years or so history of our country and would like to read more.

I need suggestions on a good curriculum for history for just since WW1 to present. He is an excellent reader.

Any suggestions?

We have enjoyed Rod and Staff's reading program which uses the Old Testament and New Testament as a basis. Next we will be reading about the journeys of Paul. They are simple and easy to understand but interesting.

[I'm looking for a wheat grinder recommendation. Also,]

Are you wanting an electric one or manual?

 

I have a Bosch mixer and for Christmas got the grinder attachment. I really like it and it doesn't require my muscles!

 

I also have a Country Living Mill which is top of the line and very nice but a LOT of work! However, if we ever find ourselves without electicity I will be able to grind my wheat still.

I don't know about cookies but coconut oil in bread is wonderful!

BTW, the coconut oil I'm using is 2 years old and without even a trace of rancidity!

[Anyone lost a back molar? Did you get an implant or just leave it empty?]

Many years ago I lost a back molar to a root canal and didn't have the money/insurance to replace.

 

Haven't missed it a bit....doesn't even slow me down! :)

[When should/can a child have their own e-mail?]

I just don't think 9yo is old enough and responsible enough for their own email account.

 

There are too many variables to consider and too many ways for unwanted things to sneak past you, IMO, even if it is under your account.

 

And I'm thinking why it is even needed except because her friends have one?

 

I know I'm too protective but those are my thoughts.

[To those who combine R&S with IEW]

We do the writing assignments in R&S and I feel they have been an almost painless way to ease into writing.

[Do you think vocabulary acquisition is a little like spelling...?]

In my humble (and not worth a lot, lol) opinion, spelling and vocabulary are directly related to how much your child reads.

 

The more good books with complex sentence structure and multi-syllable words the better speller they will be.

I appreciate your responses...but you haven't made it any easier!!!:001_unsure:

 

I guess I need to get a copy of the Saxon book and look at it closely and decide if its what we need.

 

My son seems happy with MUS but we have been doing it for so long I thought maybe a change would be welcome. I just worry that I am missing something he needs and he won't get it by sticking to just one math curriculm.

 

Oh well, "it its not broke, don't fix it"?:001_smile:

[MUS to Saxon, help please]

My soon-to-be 10ds just finished MUS Delta. I think he is ready for a change even though I have nothing but praise for MUS.

 

My question:

 

Do we go to Saxon 54 now? Will he be able to transition easily? Should we stick with another MUS and then go to Saxon?
